Lion King

Last night was The Lion King! Marc picked me up from work and we drove up to SF. We went to Roy's, where we had dinner reservations. We got the Shanghai spare rib appetizer, and I had the Peppercorn Sea Scallops, while Marc had the Filet Mignon. It was soooo good. For dessert, of course, we each had their Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle. Best. Dessert. Ever.

Then it was off to the Orpheum theater. The show was amazing. Marc bought me a program, which cost $10 (!), but was really nice. When the first scene began, for some reason I got really choked up. I mean, I was excited, and I've always loved the movie version, and it was a pretty spectacular scene, but I was literally on the edge of tears. It's like when I started crying uncontrollably when Marc surprised me with a Snoopy snow globe. I can be very bizarre.

Anyways, the set pieces and costumes were awesome. I was really impressed with how they managed to transform the actors into the animals without just stuffing them into a lion suit. The stampede scene and the Mufasa in the stars scene were very nicely and creatively done. I thought the kids playing Simba and Nala did nice jobs, and the guy who did Scar totally sounded like Jeremy Irons (who voiced Scar in the movie). The hyenas were very well done. I thought it was interesting that they changed Rafiki to a female, but she did a great job.

During intermission Marc bought me a Simba stuffed toy, which you can see above. :)

It was a great Christmas present, hehe!
