I Feel Bad

Every once in a while, I get a phone call from the Sierra Club, which I donate to. I must have expressed an interest in volunteering at one point, but I think I was probably thinking along the lines of mailing fliers or something.

So they've been calling me and trying to get me to go to these events aimed at trying to stop this housing development in Livermore. Apparently, this builder is spending upwards of $300 million to try to get voters to remove the urban sprawl restrictions in the city.

The thing is, they want volunteers to call people and go door-to-door, and I really hate doing that kind of stuff. For one, I'm not good at it. And two, I'm not all that thrilled when people come to my door. It's not like I don't care about the issue, I agree with them and I think it's bad (just look at Fremont), but that sort of thing is just not something I'm comfortable doing.

So I just keep telling them that I'm busy (which is actually true - my Saturdays and most of my weeknights are insane these days), and they keep calling. I should probably just tell them the truth, but you know me, I hate being blunt.

Oh, except when dealing with AOL customer service reps (long story). Those guys make me instantly bitchy.

Came across something funny/interesting. There's a list of all the approval ratings for state governors. The Governator is 3rd lowest, but the interesting one to me was the Ohio governor, who has an approval rating of 17%! I wonder what he did to engender such disdain.

Alright, time to go get some coffee.

Hey, I'm up for long stories about customer service reps.....

Ugh!!!

Now that's in funny contrast to my SBC/Yahoo story. Several years ago when I first signed up with SBC, you had the option or creating a new SBC/Yahoo ID, or linking the SBC account with an existing Yahoo ID. I went ahead and did it, clicking my way past the Many Warning Dialogs about how if I canceled my SBC account, I would lose the Yahoo ID as well, was I sure I wanted to do that, blah blah blah. For some reason I chose to do so, I can't remember why now...

So then, of course, when we moved out and canceled the SBC account, I got lots of warning emails about how my Yahoo ID would be cancelled as well "IN 90 DAYS!!!!!." Unless, of course I wanted to pay $9.95/month to get access to Yahoo's premium services. That's when I switched email accounts to exclusively use my sneakerbeaker email, deciding I would ditch my long-lived yahoo account completely.

In about 90 days, I got another email about how I was going to "lose my premium services" and was I really sure that I didn't want to subscribe to Yahoo's premium services? Yes, I was sure that I didn't want to. OK, then, I could still access my free Yahoo services, but I would lose the premium services. Was I really sure about that? Yep?

So to make that long story short, I ended up not losing my Yahoo ID, even after cancelling SBC. Go figure!

LOL. At least they warned you. AOL doesn't warn you at all. Although I suppose it's not necessary, since it turned out to not be true anyways. It makes my head hurt.
