Snug as Bugs

The little couple is getting along well so far:

In case you can't see the little guy, he's sleeping between the two anemones. :)

We went to see The Inside Man tonight with Kenny and Leslie. Good movie, not entirely what I expected. I liked it though. One funny thing - this lady sitting in our row brought her dog in with her. She sat down, and pulled out this little chihuahua and put in on a blanket in her lap. None of us could believe it.

So when Marc and Kenny went to go get snacks, Marc told one of the managers and while I was sitting in the theater, one of the ushers came in and told her she had to leave. Oddly, her husband/boyfriend stayed behind and watched the movie.

I mean, everyone who knows me knows I'm an absolute animal nut. But it would never occur to me to bring my dog with me to the movies, or Macy's, or the grocery store, or any of those places where I've seen countless numbers of people bringing their dogs. It seems like just because the dog weighs 5 pounds, some people think it's okay to treat them like accessories.

I always joke that one of these days I'm going to start walking around the mall carrying my 50-pound border collie. I'd like to see what people would have to say to me.

Seriously though, people. You don't bring crying babies to a movie, and you don't bring dogs (with bells on their collars, natch) to a movie. What if people are allergic? Can I bring Hammie?

It's a dog. Not a fucking handbag.

We just saw a girl with a dog in Safeway the other night. Sitting in the shopping cart "child seat" area. It wasn't THAT small of a dog, either. I thought it was a little bit gross, personally... although if I really think about it, kids with grimy hands in grocery stores probably do more germ-spreading than that dog did. But I still don't think dogs belong in grocery stores. Or movie theaters.

For me, it's not even about the germs, cause I agree, kids do plenty of that as it is. It's just the galling attitude of these people who feel free to break the rules as they feel like it. It's inconsiderate to other people too. I love my dog, but I know that he likes to eat sheep crap too, and I know that not everyone is going to appreciate the tons of hair he sheds everywhere.

Marc says I should start carrying Hammy around in her little hamster ball everywhere, which I think would be hilarious.

Ha! We do take our dog to a few dog friendly places ... but not to the mall, to places to eat, or to the movie theater!

I've gone with him to the grocery store when I have to do a quick run, but he's stayed inside the car.

I love my dog, and hate leaving him behind, but I recognize there are right and wrong places for him. Plus, I would hate the be the cause of someone's allergic reaction.
