Whoa, Speed!

We had something rather funny happen to us yesterday when I picked Marc up from work.

Like most workplace campuses, Lockheed has speed limits posted on the roads on campus. Unlike a lot of places though, they actually have designated "traffic police." Which are just guards that drive around in trucks marked "Traffic." Marc has actually been pulled over by one before.

So yesterday I went to go pick him up, and as I was passing through the guard checkpoint, the guard said, "Thank you Bonnie. 25 on the roadways." I thought that was a bit odd, because I definitely was not speeding up to that point. I did notice two of the "traffic" trucks parked on the side of the road.

So I picked up Marc, and asked him, "Is your company cracking down on speed or something? The guard just gave me a reminder about it." He said he didn't know.

As we're driving out (and coming up on those two traffic trucks I saw earlier), I said, "You might want to watch your speed, hun." Not that he was going fast, but he slowed down anyways. Too late. We got waved over by the "traffic cops."

So this guy comes up to our window, and says, "Do you know how fast you were going?" And Marc says, "I don't know...27?" And the guard says, "You were 2 miles over the speed limit. I'm going to write you a ticket." At which point Marc actually laughed out loud.

Now, normally I'm the kind of person who's mortified at being pulled over, but even I thought this was a bit silly.

Finally, after a short discussion with the guard, his supervisor came over and told him to let us go, and warned us to slow down.

I wonder what the fee is on a ticket for being 2 mph over?

Scary

I got a warning e-mail through our cat foster group about a guy who's a suspected abuser/killer of cats. Apparently, some years ago, he adopted 55 cats/kittens over the course of 18 months and they all mysteriously disappeared or were killed. He moved away, but apparently he's back, and already trying to adopt cats. Apparently he's pretty good at tricking rescuers and shelters into thinking he's a good guy.

There's even a website on him: http://www.friends4life.org/DoNotAdopt/

Talk about a sick creep.
