House Shopping

Well, finding a house is turning out to be a more difficult and frustrating experience than I expected.

We've been looking for a few weeks now, and while we've seen a couple nice ones (and a lot of bad ones), there hasn't been any yet that we've been really high on. But while Marc and I were out biking the other day, we came across this one in Dublin that, from the flyer, looked really nice. So last night our realtors took us to look at it.

We loved it.

The house is fantastic - it's big (2414 sq ft), and it has 5 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Best of all is the layout, which is perfect. The only drawback is that the yard isn't exactly sprawling - it's not that much deeper than our current yard, but it's a lot wider, and there's room on the sides. It's enough room for the dogs and for entertaining though, which is pretty much what we were looking for.

The best part though? The 5th bedroom is actually a room downstairs that's adjacent to the family room, and it was converted from what was actually a tandem 3-car garage. It would be the perfect setup for doing an in-wall fish tank with a fish room behind it, which would be so incredibly awesome.

The problem? Well, it doesn't sound like the sellers want a contingent offer (it basically means our offer is contingent upon us selling our house). And it also sounds like they're a bit greedy. They were originally asking for $25k more, and they actually got three offers at that price, all of which they rejected. So now they've dropped the price - we're guessing they're hoping to start a bidding war, and don't actually plan to sell at that price. And unfortunately, we can't afford to spend the extra $25k. So it looks grim.

I think we're going to ask our agents to put in an offer anyways. They said the worst they could do is say no, so it doesn't hurt.

There's another house that we're mulling over - we've looked at it twice now, and it's a nice house, and big, but it has a few things that I'm not that crazy about. But I don't know how picky we should be either.

Arg! Buying our first house was so easy!
