Home Repairs

| | Comments (4)

I did a little fixing up around the house last night, as the home inspection is going to be done sometime this week. We don't have anything major, but there are some cosmetic issues that needed to be taken care of.

I should've taken pictures of it all, but oh well. I can never seem to remember to take useless pictures when I need to.

The first thing we had to fix was the corner of one of our window sills, which had been chewed, presumably, by the cats. It was fairly obvious - to the point where our own agents had noticed it, so it needed to be fixed. We got some wood putty, and I just sculpted it back into a corner shape. I wasn't sure it was going to work, but it actually turned out pretty good. We slapped some paint on it, and it's almost good as new.

The second thing I had to do was make a new window screen. This was from when we had left the downstairs window open, and Snoopy tore the screen down, and the dogs broke into the house. The torn screen wasn't salvageable at all, so we had to make a new one. We bought framing materials from OSH, and I cut the new frame out with a hacksaw and then put the screen in. I had to re-screen the sliding door too, so I've gotten pretty good at this. It looks pretty good!

Lastly, in our upstairs guest room, one of the blinds had some strings that had been chewed through by our foster cats. So this morning I took some super glue gel and glued the ends back together. I have no idea if this will hold or not, but the fact that they even stayed together amused me. Anyways, if the home inspector comes and they come apart, I'll just gasp and say, "You broke it!" Hee hee.

that's so cool that you can do all those home repairs. i didn't know you were so handy! did marc help out?

Marc helped me hold the metal frames while I cut them - he probably could've done all this himself, but I kind of find this stuff fun to do. :)

The good news is, the blinds are still holding!

You all know where Bonnie inherits her skills from. But she still has a long ways to go yet. Ha! Ha!

That's true - I watched my dad re-screen the sliding door many times when we had Betsy.

However, I don't think I inherited the penchant he has for making everyone "take 5" to admire his handiwork!

(BTW, the super glue blinds made it through the home inspection.)
