Marc and I actually made some decent progress in unpacking yesterday, although most of that consisted of moving a bunch of boxes from the garage to the house. At least now we know what our garage floor looks like.
Still lots to be done besides unpacking. I've been making the kitchen my first priority to get unpacked, and I've been busy putting down liners in the kitchen cabinets. So far it's all turning out pretty nicely, so I'm pleased about that.
We had a fiasco with our washer/dryer. We hooked up our washer, but one of the water supply lines started leaking. I figured it was a bad washer, so we went to Home Depot and bought a replacement. Put it in, and the leak stopped. We even did laundry that evening. Unfortunately, the next day, while we were at work, it sprung another leak, which caused all this water to run in the wall, into the laundry room, and out into the garage. Some of the paint on the laundry room wall bubbled up where the water had been running. So far, the drywall seems to be okay, and we kept a fan on it to help it dry out, so hopefully we won't have to tear into the wall and replace anything.
Our new floors are supposed to arrive next week, but we probably won't get started on those until the new fish tank is all set up, because the old one is currently sitting in the living room.
As for the fish tank project, I'm hoping to get unpacked quickly so that I can get started on it. It is definitely going to be interesting and challenging. I'm nervous about trying all this stuff for the first time (cutting a hole in the wall, framing, sheetrocking, stand building), but you won't learn until you try it, right?
Famous last words.
The painters are at our house today painting the upstairs rooms. I was sort of hesitant to pay someone to do this, since painting is something we could have done ourselves (except for maybe the master bedroom, which has vaulted ceilings). Marc didn't feel like doing it though, so we hired someone. At least it will look better than if we did it ourselves.
One thing I want to eventually do is paint the kitchen cabinets white. I helped do this in my parents' house, and it turned out okay, but I think I've learned a few things since then. This is going to have to wait though, because the countertops are currently white, and painting the cabinets the same would require changing the countertops, which will be costly. It's something that we'll probably do down the road.
Anyways, lots to do!
