Monday Already?

Weekends are way too short, and I feel like we accomplished way too little!

It also occurs to me that I have yet to finish this site. I never did change all the other pages, and I know tons of links are broken right now. It's shameful. I'm going to seriously have to lock myself up in my office one weekend and just get it done. I just don't know when that will be. Sigh.

Our house projects are coming along slowly. I lined two more drawers with contact paper - woohoo! Marc and I did manage to install the new vertical blinds. The old ones were just horrible. They were yellowed and dirty, and so brittle that everytime we opened and closed them, one of the panes would fall off. To top it off, whoever installed them originally didn't install them level, and the blinds scraped the floor on one side.

When we removed the old ones, I was amazed by the downright shittiness of the workmanship. The screws holding in one end had backed out almost completely (probably one reason why they weren't level), and when the installer had done the work, it appeared that there was a drywall nail in his way, so rather than move the bracket, he pulled the nail out and stuck it in a random hole in the drywall. It was stupefying. I put the nail back where it belonged, Marc patched up all the holes, and we installed the new ones, which took probably an hour to do.

The new blinds look much better. The only thing was that they stunk, like someone was smoking in the factory or whereever they came from.

While we were working on the blinds, our new couches arrived! We bought a set from the Macy's furniture outlet - a sofa, loveseat, chair and ottoman. I think they look pretty good! They're upholstered in microfiber (feels like suede), which I think will be much more pet resistant than leather or cloth.

My parents and brothers came over in the evening and we had a little barbecue. Kenny and Leslie stayed late and we played some tennis on the XBox 360.

Sunday we made a run to Home Depot (I did finally decide on getting a gift card from there - my admin probably thinks I'm strange). The only work that was accomplished on the fish room was the removal of the baseboards (pics tomorrow!). Tonight I'll try to finalize all the measurements, and mark out the hole. We're picking up a bunch of my dad's tools today, so we should be able to start the real demo work soon.

The floors are getting re-delivered this week, provided they don't lose them again. We'll start work on those once the fish room/tank is done.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Holes? Demolition? Yikes! I think I missed what exactly you're doing with the fish room. (I tried looking back but maybe I skimmed past it again.) Can you elaborate?

Hehe, I think I might not have ever elaborated on our plans, mostly because it's hard to without pictures.

Our house used to have a very large family room, and one of the previous owners had a wall put up that split it into a smaller family room and a small bedroom. We decided to convert this room into our fish room, with viewing of the tank from the family room. This means that the tank will sit in the bedroom, but will be flush in the wall between the two rooms. The viewing side will then be in the family room.

It will, hopefully, look something like this: http://www.weatherson.com/photos/060_full_closer.JPG

Oooooooo. That is sooooo cool!
