Just got back from visiting my mom at the hospital, and she is doing much better today!
She was actually awake and talking today, which is the first time I've talked to her in almost a week now. Her voice was very hoarse, and she was tired, but she seemed to be in relatively good spirits, considering all that she's gone through. She seems to pretty much understand everything that's going on, so that's good too.
I think they're going to be moving her out of the ICU tomorrow, but she still has a few treatments to go through before she can be released. The cause of her condition is still a mystery, but the focus right now is on getting her well, and then trying to figure it out down the road.
It was just good to talk to her today!
Since things have been kind of gloomy in the blog of late, I thought I'd recount a funny thing that happened over the weekend. At Marc's expense, of course!
We were going through the drive-thru at Carl's Jr. on Saturday night to pick up some dinner on our way to the hospital. When we got to the pickup window, the girl who was there didn't say anything to us - she just stuck her hand out for the money. When Marc gave her the money, she took it and didn't say anything.
Marc then commented to me about how she was being a bit rude.
The girl then handed us our drinks, again, without saying a word. Not really sure what her problem was, but who knows. So Marc then asked for some salt and pepper, which she tossed in the bag and then handed to us.
Marc said, "Thank you." Of course she didn't say anything, so just to be sarcastic, he added, "You're welcome."
He put the Mazda in gear to make our quick getaway and...stalled the car.
Right there at the drive-through window.
So then he had to fumble around to roll up the window and re-start the car and get us the heck out of there to avoid further embarrassment. I was just sitting in my seat laughing my ass off - the more I replayed it in my head, the funnier it got.
He got his revenge on me later though, because as we were walking through the hospital, Marc kept catching his shoe on the floor and tripping. Right when I started laughing at him and poking fun, I caught my shoe and tripped.
Still, it's not as embarrassing as what he did at the drive-thru.

The tripping thing happened - sort of - to me and Steve, too! We were running on a trail and, out of nowhere, Steve just totally tripped and FELL and sort of rolled a little bit, getting dust and branches all over himself. I started laughing hysterically, tripped over a root, and just barely managed to stay upright. I guess laughing at someone else means I'm not paying attention to where my own feet are going!
Hey Bonnie ... I wanted to check up on you on our way from Juneau ... and I'm very glad to hear your mom is doing better!
Take care, and I'll call you when I get home.
