We're Back!

I totally forgot to blog that we were going on vacation, a fact that I was reminded of when Deepali called me Monday night wondering why I hadn't responded to any of her e-mails, and checking to see if I was okay. Sorry Deep!

So anyways, yeah, Marc and I flew down to LA on Saturday for a quick vacation to celebrate our anniversary. Before that though, we had dinner at Massimo's in Fremont on Friday night. I had a very yummy crab linguine. Afterwards, we went to my parents house, because they had gotten us a cake to celebrate.

So Saturday morning we dropped Snoopy off at a kennel (normally he would've gone to my parents, but we didn't trust leaving him and Harvey together unsupervised), and Bandit got dropped off at my parents (because we don't trust leaving him and strangers together unsupervised!).

We left for the aiport at about noon, as our flight was at 2:40. The Cal game started at 12:30, and Marc tried his best to find me a place in the airport that was showing it, but they were all showing the OSU/PSU game on ESPN. So we ended up watching that instead, and I was able to catch the Cal score as they scrolled all the scores on the bottom. By the time we had to leave, they were up 14-7.

As we were waiting for our luggage in John Wayne Airport (in Orange County), Kenny called me on my cell phone. He and Leslie had just landed in Oahu (Kenny decided to tag along with Leslie on his vacation). He called just to inform me that Cal had crushed ASU, 49-21. Apparently they had just arrived themselves, and were watching ESPN. They had just gotten to Hawaii, and the first thing they do is turn on ESPN. Too funny.

Marc and I didn't do much Saturday night - we were staying at the Sheraton for just that night (we were staying at the Grand Californian Hotel for the remaining two nights), and we mostly just relaxed in the room. It was a really nice room - big, with a couch and coffee table, and the hotel was pretty new.

Even though we were staying on a non-smoking floor, the people in the room adjacent to us apparently either didn't know this, or chose to ignore it, because they were having some sort of get-together, and lighting it up. Since our room at a connecting door to theirs, all the smoke was getting into our room and stinking it up. We couldn't open the patio door either, because they were also smoking on their balcony. It was horrible.

Marc finally decided to go down to the front desk to report it. They tried to call the room, but the people in there just ignored it. I think they may have also sent somebody up there, but I don't think they answered the door either.

So the manager apologized for the inconvenience, and told Marc he would "upgrade" us to a new room. Our new room was on the 12th floor, which required you to swipe your key in the elevator before it would let you go up there. We took that to mean that it was an uber-special floor.

So we get up there, and it says "Club Level," which must mean something cool and exclusive. Then we get to our room. Which is smaller than our previous room. Smaller!

We thought that maybe even though the room was smaller, there was something special on the floor we were on. Marc walked around, and found nothing. So we were confuzzled, because this seemed like a downgrade. I joked that maybe we got the "complainers" room.

Still, it wasn't a bad room, and at least it didn't smell like smoke.

(I looked up the hotel today, and found out this about the Club Level: "In addition, Club Level accommodations are available offering continental breakfast, evening cocktail service, and hors d'oeuvres, as well as a business center and exclusive concierge." I missed out on a free breakfast!)

Sunday and Monday we spent the day at Disneyland. We rode on all the rides we wanted to, I got a bunch of pins (I always get a couple when we go - this time I went a bit overboard), and generally had a good time. Sunday night we had dinner at the ESPN Zone, and were lucky enough to get seated in the room with the HUGE screen, that had 12 additional TV screens around it. They were showing the Sunday Night Football game, and Marc was in LOVE.

I made the mistake of wearing flip-flops Sunday and part of Monday, and paid for it with agonizing foot pain after lunch on Monday. I switched to sneakers, but by that point it was too late. I could barely walk. So I limped around Disneyland all afternoon. It was pretty sad. I felt bad too, because I was kind of ruining it for Marc. But we still did pretty much everything we wanted to, it just took longer to get there. ;)

I also got a massage Monday morning, which was great. I haven't had one since we went to Maui last year, so it was pretty nice.

We flew back Tuesday, and I took yesterday off too just to chill around the house. And now I'm back at work, and it's Friday tomorrow! Doesn't get much better than that.
