Too Nice

Sometimes I think I'm too nice, you know? Like way too accommodating.

I've been helping out with our rescue group's med clinic (we help test and vaccinate foster cats), and just recently took over helping with scheduling to give some relief to the person who coordinates the whole thing.

Clinic gets held every Wednesday night (the same night I have agility class, so I only help out about once a month) and the general rule of thumb is that clinic gets cancelled unless we have more than two appointments, because otherwise it's not worth the hassle. There are volunteers that do home visits outside of clinic, so it's not usually a big deal.

So by late Tuesday we decided to cancel clinic because we didn't have enough appointments. Yesterday rolls around, and I get an e-mail from one of the volunteers saying that some lady has been trying to get ahold of me, but because she was having problems with e-mail, couldn't e-mail me. So I gave the lady a call.

I told her that clinic had already been cancelled, and asked if she could do a home visit with someone, or if I could schedule her for next week. I even offered to do a home visit myself, but told her that I would need a few days to get some supplies. She said no, she needed her kittens tested "TODAY." Then she proceeded to bitch about why was clinic always getting cancelled. I said I don't know, I'm just doing the scheduling, I don't run it.

I asked if it could wait until Thursday (today), and she said no, it needed to be done that day. I told her I didn't have any supplies, and she said she could get some. So I said fine, and agreed to let her come to our house so I could test her cats.

What I probably should've told her was that all this wasn't my problem, and that she was on her own, but I can never seem to be bitchy when I need to be.

Anyways, she did at one point later apologize for her attitude, and things ended up working out fine - she brought her kittens over, I tested them, and we were all done in time for me to take Bandit to class. Still, I probably should've put my foot down. Truthfully though, getting into a confrontation with someone would probably cause me a lot more angst, although I think it would've been the right thing to do, heh.

Bandit's class was fun, although we were freezing out there. I ended up having to wear two sweatshirts. Bandit was hilarious though. At some point I must have gotten something really smelly (in a bad way) on my fingers, because he was really reluctant to take treats from me. You know how usually when you give a dog a treat, they just slobber it up? Well everytime I'd hold out a treat, he'd totally wrinkle up his nose. Then he'd peel back his lips and slowly take the treat with his teeth, like he wanted to make sure no part of his mouth touched my fingers. There were times when he couldn't even bring himself to take the treat at all. I'd be practically shoving the treat in his mouth, and he'd just wrinkle his nose in disgust. It was too funny.

I smelled my fingers, by the way. They smelled like funky cheese (his treats were bits of string cheese) but not much else. So I don't know what the deal was.

Have I mentioned that he's totally the teacher's pet in class? Every week, at the beginning of class, Lorie goes, "Oh! I've got to say hi to my Bandit!" and she comes and pets him all over, but doesn't do it to the other dogs. I feel kind of bad!

Not much else exciting in the past couple days. I'm still working on patching up the drywall around the wall opening for the tank, but that's almost done. I think we will definitely have water in the tank by 2010!
