New Fish

The fish store had both fish, and actually had a beautiful blonde naso, but I was told that fish wasn't eating - it was pretty big, maybe 4", and the older the fish is, the harder it is to get it to eat prepared/frozen food.

They also had a baby powder blue tang that was about 2" long. Not teeny tiny, but not huge. It was a bit skinny, but ate like a pig when we asked them to feed it. So we picked it up.

When we first put it in the tank, Dory just went after it. She actually nipped its fins in a few places. Blue tangs are supposed to be generally docile, but ours is a bully. On the other hand, powder blues are one of the meanest tangs. And even our little baby wasn't all that intimidated by Dory. Even though she was nipping and chasing it, it never backed down, and made what I can only describe as the fish equivalent of a chest bump, just kind of flashed itself at Dory to let her know he wasn't gonna take it. So after a few hours of squabbling, they seemed to settle down.

I hope this little one fattens up and does well - powder blues are notoriously hard to keep. My biggest worry right now is ich, since they (like all tangs) are magnets for it. So Sunday we went and picked up a cleaner wrasse. I had pretty good success with the last one (I think it died because my holding tank didn't have the best water conditions), so I hope this one will do well. This one has a yellow head too, which is interesting (although I don't think it's the Hawaiian species). When I put it in the tank, it made a beeline for the two tangs and immediately started picking at them (the powder blue loved it, while Dory was all freaked out at first).

Anyways, our weekend was pretty low key. We had dinner on Saturday with Steve and Erin and the kids, and spent most of the time running a couple errands and watching football (I am so enormously sick of seeing the Patriots in the playoffs - and could Belichick look more like an idiot with that stupid sweatshirt? How someone who makes so much money could manage to dress like a homeless person while coaching a professional football team is beyond me.) Sorry, I don't know why, but the Pats just annoy me to no end. Nice to see the Saints advance though.

Speaking of the Saints, there was a nice article here on their linebacker, Scott Fujita, who played for Cal.

Marc also spent most of his Friday off cleaning the garage, and managed to clear enough space in there to pull the new car in. If you had seen our garage before, you would know that it was a near-Herculean effort on his part!
