Flatworms, Yuck!

| | Comments (0)

I got yet another unpleasant surprise with the fish tank yesterday - an invasion of flatworms. I'm finally starting to win the fight against the dinoflagellates (knock on wood), so it figures that some other annoying pest would have to take its place.

There's a product that can be dosed to the tank to get rid of them, and the product in itself isn't bad for anything in the tank, but the flatworms release a toxin when they die, and that can be harmful to things.

We siphoned out as many as we could, but there were still some left when I dosed the tank. Some of the corals didn't look very happy, and a bunch of my snails fell onto the sand, screaming, "I'm melting!" Not really, but that's what it looked like.

Most of the flatworms looked like they died, but I still saw a few hanging around, so I'm sure I'll have to dose the tank again in a few days. Sucks. The corals still looked unhappy this morning, but some of the snails had moved, so hopefully things will be better tonight. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

That whole ordeal pretty much took up our evening yesterday. I spent the rest of my free time catching up on recaps and the boards on televisionwithoutpity.com. I always forget how awesome that site is.

Marc and I rewatched the parts of "American Idol" that we missed before going to bed. I still can't believe that was Gwen Stefani - she ought to ditch the bright red lipstick more often, because she's a lot prettier than I thought she was. (Side note: going on AI must really be a good marketing tool for these stars, because I totally went and downloaded "Sweet Escape" after watching the show, and I haven't been as into her solo stuff as much as No Doubt, but I'm really digging this song.)

I've simmered down on my Sanjaya-hate since yesterday, and I'm starting to think that if he wins the competition, and Simon's head explodes, and the entire "American Idol" universe collapses, then it's okay, because it'll at least be entertaining. Kelly Clarkson is still the best Idol ever, anyways. (Second side note: for all the Kelly fans - and you know who you are - YouTube is a great place to find clips from the first season of AI. Not that I've spent a great deal of time looking. Nope.)

I saw this article today on a women's contact football league. Hahaha, so awesome. I should try out as a kicker. Or maybe weak-side linebacker.

Alrighty, have a good weekend all!
