Liars! All of Them!

Marc and I both left work a bit early yesterday to try to see if we could beat the FedEx guy to our house. Sadly, when we got home, we could see that there was a delivery tag on our door. The package required a signature, and apparently he was going to redeliver the next day.

It's kind of silly, really, because according to the person I spoke with at FedEx, for home deliveries they don't unload the package from the truck, and they have to try to deliver it three times before it becomes available for pickup at the depot. I could tell them that they'd just be wasting their time, since I know I'm not going to be home, but I guess it doesn't make a difference.

But I digress. Marc and I decided that since we didn't need to stick around and wait for the driver, that we'd go out to the fish store, since I wanted to get a new fish to try to see if it would eat the flatworms. I ended up finding a spotted mandarin fish, which is rumored to eat these things, but who knows. They're sort of notoriously hard to keep because they're hard to feed, so we'll have to see how it does. It at least has plenty of flatworms to eat!

Then we just grabbed some food at Carl's to bring home.

Just when we were finished eating, our doorbell rang, and it was our neighbor. He told us that he had a package for us! Apparently, the FedEx driver had returned to try to deliver the computer again, and we were out buying fish! So he dropped it off with our neighbor instead. Thankfully, we know and get along with both our neighbors (not like at the old house).

So I have my computer! Woohoo! It's awesome - the case has white sides, which looks geeky-cool, and it's much quieter than my old computer. It's beautiful! I didn't even realize that it came with a SATA hard drive, which must just be standard these days. So I won't be able to use my old IDE drive as a slave, which is too bad.

The best thing is, my monitor works great now! It pretty much displays instantly, unlike before when it would take a few minutes (because my video card didn't quite support it). I spent most of the evening re-partitioning the drive, so I didn't have time to load much else on there. I'm still going to need to get a PSU in the old PC so that I can transfer the data I need from it.

The new video card isn't quite as crazy looking as I expected it to be. It looks pretty much like my old one. I guess I've been looking at all the pictures of the monstrous Nvidia 8800GT cards, and was expecting something like that. I forgot to check which manufacturer Dell uses.

The heat sink they use for these new processors is insane. I can't believe how ginormous this thing is. It literally spans the entire width of the case.

The only other thing we did last night was watch "American Idol." The them was country, which is a music genre I often hate but sometimes guiltily enjoy. Sanjaya returned to his other-wordly suckiness, which was somewhat of a surprise given that he did much better last week. But then again, I can see how country wouldn't suit his voice. But what I actually find annoying is that his song choice made it very clear that he knows he won't win this thing, and he doesn't give a crap anymore. Seriously, "Let's Give 'Em Something to Talk About?" He's drinking the kool-aid of his own Sanjaya universe, so now it's gone from amusing to annoying. The vocal performance was terrible too. I don't know how many mentors and judges can tell him that he needs to put more power into his voice, but maybe he just doesn't care or whatever. Even if he had though, it still would've sucked.

Jordin was great, and I am usually indifferent about her. Same with Blake. Melinda was great as usual. LaKisha wasn't very good, and I think the reason I don't vote for her is because she always seems very bored with the whole thing. She seems to be pretty indifferent to the advice of the mentors and the criticism of the judges.

My predicted bottom three for tonight is Phil (didn't totally suck last night, but he also went first, and I don't think he has enough fans), Chris, and either Sanjaya (yay!) or LaKisha (meh). LaKisha needs to get some personality, STAT, or she's going to be the next Daughtry. Phil probably goes home.

No agility class tonight, which means I get to play with my computer some more! Whee!

Yay for computers! And yay for delivery lies that get you your product early! But I don't understand this "delivering to the neighbors" thing ... what if your neighbor is not honest? I've always been suspicious the neighbor living to the left* of us ... ;) (hahaha, just kidding Vicki!!!! She is the bestest neighbor!)

*(uh, left if you are facing the street)

I would repeat my comment from yesterday but that would be lame. :-) Have fun with your new computer!
