Busy, Busy, Busy

Cynthia's wedding is this Saturday, and my week is a bit crazy!

I stayed a bit late at work last night, and then drove straight to Fremont for my second dress fitting. She had removed the entire outer shell (except for the bust area) so it was kind of funny to put it on. The alterations are cheap too - only $15 (!). Hopefully the dress won't fall down or anything the day of. ;)

I got home around 8pm, and Marc had to work late, so he got home shortly after me. We had Chili's take out for dinner, heh. I also cheated and ate 3 Thin Mints (we ran out of Samoas LOOOOONG ago).

I forgot to mention the other day about when I was trying to buy the Kelly Clarkson tickets. I had to use the computer in the lab to try to order them, because I couldn't leave the lab. My boss happened to walk in while I was looking, and he goes, "Ticketmaster, eh?" Then he continues, "Going to see a show?" To which I had to sheepishly respond, "Yeah, Kelly Clarkson concert." I suppose I could've lied and said The Police or something cooler, but lying has never been my strong suit. He just chuckled and said, "Oh, the American Idol. My daughter likes her." (For the record, his daughter is in college - so I don't feel THAT bad.)

Anyways, yeah, so my week - I'm going to have to do some shopping tonight (I need earrings and makeup), tomorrow I have agility, and Thursday I have to pick up my dress. Then Friday is the wedding rehearsal, and Cynthia and Steve have booked rooms for us at a hotel near the church, so I'll be staying there Friday night. Saturday is, of course, the wedding, and Sunday morning we are flying out to Orlando. Somewhere along there I have to pack, and I'm really not sure when that's going to be!

Rewind the '70s

I think we're down to 7 contestants now? Justin, Kelly, Nikki, Tamyra, RJ, Christina, and Ryan. The theme for this week is music from the '70s.

Nikki went first, and sang "Heartbreaker." It was apparently a decent performance, ruined by an off-key wail at the end of the song (pretty typical of Nikki, I think). Sadly (but not shockingly), I couldn't find a YouTube clip of this.

Ryan went next, with "Last Dance." You know those neck warmer things you wear when you go skiing and stuff? It looks like she's wearing one of those things as a skirt. I'm sure all the males enjoyed this performance. For me it was kind of meh. The judges are all kind of meh too.

Christina sang "Ain't No Sunshine" next, and it was a pretty good performance. No out of control vibrato, possibly because the song had an easier range. One thing about this first season was it seemed like there were a lot of bare midriffs for the women, and a lot of sleeveless shirts for the men. Just an observation. Christina, by the way, was the contestant that Simon had the biggest crush on, at one point chastising her for not telling him that she had a fiance. Yeow!

(Side note - when I went searching for this video, I came across another one of Sting doing this same song, and he's sporting the weirdest, creepiest mustache I have ever seen.)

Justin went next with "Someday We'll All Be Free," and apparently it was really bad. It must have been, because I can't find a clip of it.

Kelly was next, with "Don't Play That Song." Pretty much great, as usual. There's a funny bit at the end of this clip, where Ryan goes down to Simon to point out that he was clapping along, and you can see that Simon has his middle finger, and just that, pressed along the side of his face, in Ryan's direction. Ryan actually pulls his hand away, and you can barely hear him say, "Watch that finger." I don't know if Simon was purposely giving Ryan the bird, but if so, that's hilarious.

RJ then sang "Superstition," which vocally was okay for me. I do remember thinking RJ was cute, though.

Tamyra went last, and sang "If I Were Your Woman." Very good performance, and goes to further highlight that she and Kelly probably should've been the final two.

Results night had the kids doing a group sing of "Joy to the World." I found a clip of it, so I'll include it here. The group sings are usually painful, but I find Season 1's amusing, mostly because they seemed a lot less rehearsed, and also because you can usually spot Nikki's voice during the harmonies like a sore thumb.

As for the results, Ryan, Nikki and Justin are in the bottom three, and Ryan ends up going home.

Next episode was Big Band week, which was a great episode.

Oooh...Orlando for fun? Are you going to Epcot? We went back in Dec and did the Leave a Legacy thing, where they take a pic and it's set in these sculpture things. Can you take a pic of ours? That'll be so cool...thanks!!! :)

Marc has a conference to go to for a day or two - I'm going simply for fun. I'm sure we'll be going to Epcot - not sure what you mean though, did you want me to take a picture of your picture?

Yes please :) It takes them a few months to engrave the pics into these steel plates, then they put them on these sculptures, so I haven't seen the actual sculpture yet. I'll give you the coordinates to where our picture should be. You and Marc should do it too! My sis did one before us, so last time we went back we took pics of hers. Pretty cool.
