Woot and Bleh

Kenny called me last night to tell me that he was offered a job at a big law firm in Phoenix! They flew him down for an interview yesterday and they offered him the job on the spot. It sounds like he's going to take it (it's a great opportunity for him, and the pay is very good). I think he's hoping to be able to transfer to their San Jose branch after a year or so. They want him to start June 5! So he's going to have to get all his arrangements in order pretty quick. I'm proud of him - but we'll miss him! Who are Marc and I going to hang out with now?

Anyways, I made the mistake of actually surfing the 'net during AI last night, and because of that damn thing called East Coast Time, I ended up getting spoiled about who was getting the boot last night.

It sucked to see Melinda go home, although I'm not super sad about it, which might tell you a little something about why she ended up not moving on. It was also not totally surprising - it's one thing to be consistently good, but you also have to "wow" people every week, and I'm not sure she was able to accomplish that.

So I'm pretty uninterested in this final two. Jordin, I think, will be a great singer someday, but I don't think she's ready quite yet. But who knows - maybe she'll go out and sell a trillion records after this, what do I know. Blake, well, I still don't "get" him, so I'm indifferent. I'll probably watch the final performances with detached interest, and then I'll probably watch the results show mostly because Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry (I think) will be performing. But I don't really care who wins - it's Kat and Taylor all over again as far as I'm concerned.

It was cool to see Elliot Yamin again though - holy moly those teeth! That guy seems like such a nice guy.

Rewind

Final Five week had the theme "Love Songs," and the guest mentor (the one and only that season) was Burt Bacharach. Christina was back, sitting in the crowd.

Kelly went first, with "Walk on By":

This wasn't one of my favorite Kelly performances - vocally she was great as usual, but maybe the song was just boring?

RJ sang next, and did "Arthur's Theme," and disappointingly, I couldn't find a clip (does no one like this guy?). He was mediocre, and the judges didn't really like it.

Tamyra did "A House Is Not a Home" next:

This was a great performance, and probably Tamyra's best of the competition. Still, I found the song a bit boring. Maybe it's Burt.

Justin sang next with "The Look of Love." Again, I couldn't find this one on YouTube. According the TWOP recap, Justin was pretty smarmy, and the vocals weren't great. The judges only thought it was okay.

Nikki had the pimp spot and sang, "Always Something There To Remind Me." And I found video! Yay! (I think):

Nikki was flatter than Flatsville. She always sounded flat and generally off-key to me, so this performance was no different. It was like bad karaoke. Ugh, Nikki.

For the results show, they did a Burt Bacharach medley. No YouTube vid. Boo.

RJ got the boot. Not a huge shocker, but once again, I was sad to see Nikki, still hanging around. With Tamyra, Kelly, and Justin being her remaining competition, she'll have to be the one to get the boot next week, right? RIGHT?

Non AI note - I have XM radio streaming here at work, and JT's "My Love" is playing right now. I love to sing that "Eee ee e-e-e-e" part. Just wanted to mention that.
