Weekend (Most of It)

| | Comments (3)

For once, we managed to have a pretty productive weekend, rather than one where we were kept busy by a bunch of extraneous things (for the most part).

The painters finished the house on Friday, and it looks great! I'm pretty pleased with the colors we picked - that was the part that made me the most nervous, because I didn't want the house to turn out disastrously, but I think it looks really nice. I'll get pictures up sometime this week.

My cousin Derek (who is getting married next month) is in town for a conference, so we all had dinner on Friday night in Cupertino. I ate way too much food. Afterwards, we hung out at my parents' house for a bit, and watched some of the Giants game.

Marc had to work Saturday, and I had an eye appointment in the morning. I needed to renew my contact lens prescription, as well as get new glasses. I haven't had new glasses in forever - like maybe 8 years? I don't even know. I only wear them at night, but the dog and cats have chewed on them a bit, and they've gotten to the point where it's annoying to wear them because I see spots everywhere. So I bought what I think is a cute pair of Kate Spade frames. I didn't want to spend a ton on glasses though, because a) I don't wear them often, and b) I'm hoping to get lasik done in the near future.

I took a short nap after lunch, and when Marc got home, we decided to start on the living room floor. We removed all the baseboards, and pulled up the carpet around the edges. Marc pulled up all the tack strips (lousy task), and I went around and patched up the holes left by the nails (not-as-lousy task). We spent probably 2-3 hours on this. Then we put the carpet back down in place, so for the time being, we're not stuck having to walk on concrete until the floors are done.

After that, we went and put up the new exterior lights (figured if the house was going to get prettied up with new paint, it was a good time to change out the yucky old lights). The new ones look much better! They use LED bulbs too, which don't seem to cast light as far as the old fixtures did, but they're supposed to last a lot longer and use less electricity.

We had just finished that when Leslie got to our house, and the three of us went to get dinner and watch The Simpsons movie. It was hilarious - I didn't really have expectations for it, but it surprised me. Was definitely worth seeing.

There's a whole other story that happened after the movie - which I'll write about in a new post, and which will be password protected. It's nothing bad, really, I just don't want to take any chances.

Sunday morning I took Bandit herding, and then had lunch. Marc went out to look at tile floors (he wants to redo the kitchen tile now), and I drove down to my parents' house to meet up with Deepali, who is very kindly going to stop in and take care of Harvey while we're all at my cousin's wedding. I took a short nap when I got home before dinner.

I spent the rest of the evening doing fish tank chores, as well as patching up more holes in the floor. I think we can probably start laying planks by the weekend.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased at what we managed to get accomplished this weekend! Although no, the kitchen cabinet doors are still not up, heh.

What kind of flooring will you have in the living room?

Ack! I can't believe you didn't tell me on Sunday! :)

It'll be pergo, just like the family room. The kitchen will probably be slate (or travertine?).

Sorry I forgot, Deep!
