Aloha from Hawaii

We've got internet access here at our hotel, so I'm gonna try blogging a bit while we're here on the big island!

My dad dropped us off at the airport Thursday morning - we flew first class on the way out because Marc accidentally upgraded our seats with our miles. :P The guy sitting in front of me was really sick - I don't know what he had, but he was hacking loogies the whole flight. Kind of gross. I took Airborne while on the plane.

Since we'd gotten about 2 hours of sleep the night before, we pretty much landed in Kona, picked up our rental car (Mustang convertible, woohoo!), drove to the hotel (we're staying at the Fairmont Orchid), checked in, and napped. Well, we actually had lunch first, and because we were too tired to drive anywhere (on the big island, the resorts are kind of remote - there's not much outside of them), we opted to have lunch at one of the hotel's restaurants. It was expensive! I had a crab sandwich (which literally had a whole softshell crab battered and fried on it - like, it was a whole intact crab!) that cost $24. And Marc had a steak sandwich that cost just as much. The cheeseburger was $22! Ridiculous.

The hotel is really nice - our room is huge, and the bathroom has a tub/shower and a stall shower. It's got a private beach, and a big pool, plus a cool hidden whirpool.

So we napped all of Thursday afternoon, then drove down to Kona, which seems to be the closest town/city. Had a decent dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. Went back to the hotel, napped a little bit more, got up and got ready for bed, then went to sleep again. We were really tired!

Today we woke up not early but not late, and Marc and I got a couples massage at the spa here (I managed to convince him to get one!). It's very cool - they call it the "spa without walls" because they have these little private tea houses outside, and you get your massage in there, where you can listen to the ocean or the surrounding waterfalls. It was soooo relaxing with the sound of the water and the nice cool breeze.

We then had a (much more reasonable) lunch at the Tommy Bahama Cafe - and the food was a lot better than what we'd had Thursday, for like half the price. We walked around the shopping center a bit, had some ice cream, and then returned to the hotel.

We spent the afternoon in the pool and at the beach, swimming and sunbathing. I think I could've stayed in the pool all day.

For dinner we had Thai food - really good chicken satay, though a bit pricey. There really isn't any cheap food around these resorts.

Cal's playing tomorrow morning, and it's actually being broadcast here in Hawaii, so I'll be catching the game. Huge game for us, so here's hoping they play well and win. I think tomorrow afternoon we'll go and check out some of the shopping and food at Waikoloa Village.
