Reality

Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl. Think if I say it enough, it might actually come true? The life of a Cal fan - reality always hits sooner or later.

I went with Leslie to the game on Saturday - we had awesome seats - about 1/3 of the way up, and the 50-yard line ran right between the two of us. It was great. The game was a thriller, and if our redshirt freshman QB starting his first game ever hadn't decided he saw daylight to the endzone when in fact, there was a linebacker waiting for him, we might have pulled out a win. I couldn't believe how it went down. I remember Riley getting tackled, and I looked up at the game clock and saw the seconds winding down. 3...2...1...0. My brain went "What??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and I was just in disbelief - I kept waiting for something, anything, because there just HAD to be another play, it couldn't end that way! Everyone in the stands just stood there for minutes after. No one could move.

It's a game Cal certainly should have won, and for like 2 hours, they were the number 1 team in the country. In fact, when the LSU score made its way through the stands, people started chanting "We're #1!" Idiots. Don't you know anything about jinxes?

So the fact now is, win out, and Cal goes to the Rose Bowl, which is what a lot of fans want, even moreso than a national championship. I'm happy either way. It won't be easy though.

Sunday we didn't do much - we watched a little football, and then went over to our neighbor's house for a scrapbooking workshop (the wife works as a sales consultant from home). I like the idea of scrapbooking, but it's one of those things I just never have time for. We did order a cute little scrapbook kit for pets, so I'll put one together for Bandit and the cats.

After that, we went out to dinner with them and their two kids (who are 4 and 6). We had bought them a gift card to Cheesecake Factory for the last time they'd taken care of our cats and fish while we were on vacation, and they insisted on taking us with them to dinner.

It was fun - their kids are really cute and well behaved. Keith, the dad, pulled a prank on Marc. He slipped the waiter a note telling him that it was Marc's birthday. When it was time for the cheesecakes to come out, all the waiters came over and started singing Happy Birthday.

Okay, so here's how stupid I am. Keith actually showed me the note - he passed it to his wife (hidden in a menu), who showed it to me (I was sitting next to her). It said, "Marc's Birthday! (striped shirt)" I had no clue what he was talking about. I thought he was joking that they were going to get Marc a striped shirt for his birthday, and was poking fun at Marc for always wearing striped shirts (he was wearing one that night). Clearly, I was just clueless.

So by the time they came out singing Happy Birthday, I had already kind of forgotten the note. So in my head, I was panicking, because I thought I had forgotten Marc's birthday. My train of thought was:

"What?"

"Wait, when is Marc's birthday? Oh shit, did I forget?"

"You idiot, it's November 12th!"

"Wait, what month is it?"

"It's October...are Keith and Jennifer celebrating it early? But it's still early October, it's not close enough." (Note that it is actually mid October.)

"Wait, how do they know when Marc's birthday is?"

"..."

"OHHHHHHH."

Then the note and everything fell into place in my tiny little brain. In the span of about 5 seconds, my face went from a look of confusion, to terror, to embarrassment, to hilarity.

It didn't help that I'm horrendous with dates and have a horrible sense of time, but I think that's a perfect example of how I need to get more sleep, because it's obvious my brain isn't functioning at 100%, heh.

The kittens are still growing, little by little. They're walking around a lot more now, and sitting up quite a bit. They've even started to play with each other, and I watched one of them try to pounce on the other. It was more like a wobble walk - wobble walk - flop. I tried introducing them to some KMR (milk replacer) last night, but they pretty much just walked in it.

There's a few pictures now in the gallery: Kitten Pictures. It's hard to take pictures in the bathroom.

Still working on Hawaii pictures, I'll have some up soon!
