The Mustang!

I've got a cold, and actually ended up staying home sick today, which is why this post is late. Ended up sleeping until almost noon. I don't know why it always seems like Marc and everyone else gets mildly sick for a day and then is fine, but I end up getting pretty sick, and it lasts for weeks. Ugh.

Anyways, so the Mustang story. So the Thursday before vacation, Marc had taken the day off, and I was at work. He called me around noon to tell me that he was maybe getting a migraine, and that he was going to take a nap. Normally I wouldn't think too much of that, but for some reason this time I thought, "What if he told me that so that I wouldn't call him at home, and find out that he wasn't home after all?" Weird, but that's what I thought.

Coincidentally, I had been briefly looking at Mustangs online - I was looking for local dealers that sold Saleens (was curious how much they cost), and found that the closest one was in Concord, and happened to see their stock of Shelby GT's and GT500's on their website. Major coincidence!

So I left work early that day, and got home around 4 or so. When I got home, the Rav4 was parked outside, but Marc wasn't home. So I called him on his cell phone. When he answered, I asked, "Hey, where are you?"

Marc replied, "I'm at the store."

I said, "How'd you get there?"

He answered, "I took the Rav4."

And I said, "No you didn't, because I'm looking at it right now."

A pause, and then he said, "I went with Keith." (Keith is our next door neighbor.)

I said, "You went to the store. With Keith. Why?"

Marc just said, "I'll tell you later when I get home."

Now Marc and I always joke about getting another car, and he's always promised that he'd get me another Mustang, and I've always told him we didn't need one because it's not practical. But at this point I had my suspicions, because I know Marc, and he's the type that would love to surprise me with something like this.

So when he got home, he called me down to the front door and told me he had something to show me outside. He took me over to our neighbors' house, and they had their two big cars parked on one side of their driveway, blocking the other side.

Sure enough, when we got around their cars, there was the Mustang sitting on the driveway, with a big red bow on it.

I think my first response was, "Oh my God, are you crazy?!?" I was literally in shock for the next 10 or 15 minutes.

It turns out that Keith, our neighbor, was friends with the general manager of the Ford dealer in Concord (the very same dealer whose cars I had been browsing earlier), and the guy had offered Marc some pretty good pricing on a few different Mustangs, and had allowed him to essentially borrow this car for a few hours so that he could show it to me and make sure I liked it before we bought it.

It's a 2007 Mustang Shelby GT (not the same as the GT500). It's a GT with a bunch of different suspension and performance enhancements (it has 319 horsepower) and some aesthetic stuff, like new front and rear bumpers, hood scoop and hood pins, and billet grille. It even comes with a numbered plaque, and is autographed by Carroll Shelby. The dealer also made additional mods, including a spoiler and 20-inch momo rims.

It sounds really badass too, hehe. :)

I've uploaded a bunch of pictures in the gallery here, but unfortunately none are very good because they were all taken in the garage. The weather just isn't cooperating right now. So once the sun comes back up, we'll get some better pictures.

I really wish I'd waited until next year to get Marc his watch, because this totally stole my thunder!
