Well, I am sitting here typing up this entry with no glasses or contacts! I had my LASIK this morning, about 12 hours ago, and it's pretty awesome! I think I'm pretty much seeing as well as I did with contacts already.
Marc took the day off to take me to my appointment this morning, which was at 7:45 am. The whole thing took about 2 hours. They did a bunch of tests first, and did the wavefront mapping of my eye. Then it was off to the actual surgery, which took maybe 10-15 minutes total. They taped by eyelids back, and put this metal contraption in my eye to keep it open. The uncomfortable part was when the doctor put some other contraption in my eye that was supposed to keep my eyeball from moving. It was a really strange sensation. They numbed my eye, but I could still feel some stuff. Then the doctor set about making the flap in my cornea with the microkeratome, which I think is a small blade. That part was a bit unpleasant.
The laser part itself was easy, although the smell is a bit disconcerting at first. But that part only took about 20 seconds. Then they moved to the left eye and repeated everything. The doctor said the left eye might be more uncomfortable, and he was right. Not sure why that would be.
Once that was all done, they gave me some sunglasses, night shields to wear, and sent me home! Kind of crazy how fast and easy it all was. Not a bad living for the doc either - 15 minutes of work and he made a very nice chunk o' change.
So Marc took me home, and I took a nap, because they wanted me to keep my eyes closed for the next 4 hours. I had to sleep with the night shield, which was fairly uncomfortable. I kept drifting in and out, but managed to keep my eyes closed the whole time. Bandit slept on the bed next to me the whole time. Marc went and got me some eye drops and Motrin and lunch for the both of us while I slept.
I could see fairly clearly by the time I woke up, although my vision was still a little bit hazy. I probably could've done something productive in the afternoon, but after lunch I pretty much just lay in bed and watched season 2 X-Files all day. Marc did some work from home.
Now we're watching the NCAA mens' final, and it's back to work tomorrow. I do have a follow-up appointment tomorrow morning. I think they said my vision won't be 100% until 24 hours after surgery. It probably won't hit me how cool this all is until I go to bed tonight and I can actually fall asleep watching TV or when I wake up tomorrow and I can see right away.
This is so cool!

Congrats on surviving! :-)
I sleep with my eyes open sometime, so the 4-hour thing could be interesting. But I'm still a bit leery of having my eyes cut into!
i'm glad your eye surgery went well! your description does not sound very pleasant, especially since i can't even touch my own eyeball. i got chills thinking about it.
Yay! How exciting! And how awesome for clear vision. Time to plan another Hawaii trip!
