Weekend 'n Stuff

| | Comments (6)

I wish I could say I was productive over the weekend, but I wasn't. Ended up feeling really lazy, and didn't get much accomplished.

Marc and I rented Juno on Friday night (our Blockbuster now carries Blu-ray discs, woot!), which we both enjoyed a lot. I was pleasantly surprised by the cast, because I didn't expect to recognize anyone in it. The movie was pretty hilarious, definitely worth the rental.

Saturday morning Marc got up early and went with our neighbor, Keith, to a Mustang show in Stockton. Normally I probably would've gone, but I didn't feel like driving up that way. So I just lounged around all morning, and did some work on the fish tank.

The lounging continued through the afternoon after Marc got home. The two of us watched the NFL draft for a bit (DeSean Jackson didn't go until the 49th pick - oops). Cal had the 4th highest number of players drafted. The 49ers signed Robert Jordan as a free agent.

We then had dinner with Steve and Erin and the kids (we also got to watch Jacob play bowling on the Wii - he throws strike after strike with just a flick of his wrist, it's crazy haha). Grabbed some ice cream afterwards, and then Marc and I went home and rented No Country for Old Men.

It was...meh. I never know if there's just something I'm fundamentally missing with movies like this. Critically acclaimed flicks that I leave me hollow. I feel like I must be missing a deeper message, because the way I came away understanding the point of the thing only left me feeling like it was entirely unneccessary to have 2 hours of exposition laying it out.

So if anyone watched this movie and liked it, can you explain it to me? I just found it slow and boring and gratuitous. :(

I was planning on renting There Will Be Blood at some point, but I'm wondering if I'll have the same reaction to that one as well.

Sunday morning I took Bandit herding (Cynthia came with me, although watching us herd isn't too exciting). The afternoon was more of doing nothing. Marc and I were just sitting on the couch, watching TV, and we kept saying we should go do something. Neither of us could think of anything though. So sad. We did stop by Gamestop to pick up my copy of Mario Kart, and we played that a little bit.

For dinner we went to my parents' place to have barbecue. Marc dropped a big piece of steak when he was grilling them, so we cut it in half and gave it to Bandit and Harvey. They each inhaled it in a second, maybe two. Dogs just don't know how to savor food!

Last night we went grocery shopping after work and rented Cloverfield from the little in-store kiosk. Short movie, and it was okay. Glad we rented it instead of going to see it in the theater.

So, entirely too much TV for us this weekend - will have to try to be more productive next weekend!

Ooooh, I didn't watch the draft, but I didn't see Robert Jordan on the espn list. Well, this is a reason to go to a niners game, hee. :)

I actually liked Cloverfield. I thought the point of view way of shooting was interesting, and like Lost, there was all this secret stuff you could find online. It was kind of fun.

Yeah, didn't mean to imply that I didn't like it - it was entertaining, but I think that there was so much hype around it that I was bound to be a little disappointed.

Oops, I had put fake tags around my Cloverfield statement ... the tag was [embarrassed], although I think [sheepish] would work better. So, didn't mean to sound defensive! :) Hee!

Yeah, I saw the tags, lol. You didn't sound defensive at all! I just didn't mean to make you feel embarrassed for liking it!

Hee! No worries! :)

Hey, looks like we have 2 Cal guys playing for the niners. I feel bad that I don't know most of our defensive guys though ...

Oh yeah, Tully Banta-Cain. Well, if Jordan ever manages to become a starter, I might, might be compelled to watch a Niners game. ;)

ETA: Looks like OG Brian DeLaPuente also got signed as a FA by SF.
