Bandit passed his JHD test this weekend! I didn't think we could get it done, but we did! Woohoo! One more pass and he gets his title.

Marc and I got up early Saturday morning, and left the house around 8:30 to drive to Pescadero. There we met up with Jan and another Jan (whose dog also trains with us). The weather was gorgeous out there. We all brought lunch, set up chairs, and watched the trial while waiting our turns. It was a really nice, relaxed atmosphere.
I had wanted Jan to take Bandit out there, but she said I should do it, so there I was. The course for JHD is pretty simple. Move three sheep through a set of panels in the center of the field, and then behind two separate panels along the side of the field. Then the sheep have to be moved back to the pen/gate, and the dog has to hold while the sheep are re-penned. Simple, but not always easy!
Luckily, Bandit listened much better than he normally does, and he lay down when I asked him to, and didn't push as much as normal (the picture above is me reminding him to back off, hehe). It wasn't a perfect run, but we did what we needed to do, and finished it and passed! We even got a nice green ribbon for it. The judge's comment on the scoring sheet was, "A bit pushy at times, but overall a good job - nice dog." I got a kick out of that.
We got to watch some more advanced dogs (including Jan's) and boy, were some of them nice. I'll have more pictures up later this week.

We headed home in the early afternoon, napped, and then drove to Union City to meet my family for an early Mother's Day dinner (Kenny was in town this weekend, and was going to have to fly out early Sunday morning - although his flight ended up being cancelled). We all hung out afterwards at my parents' house and watched Charlie Wilson's War, which was actually pretty decent.
This morning I took Bandit herding, where he reverted back to his usual out-of-control self. Marc and I then ran a few errands, and came home and napped.
Right now I'm sitting at my desk, and Marc's asleep. I have a training class all day at work tomorrow, which is why I'm blogging right now. I'm also passing the time waiting for the X-Files trailer to premiere, which should be in about....15 minutes. Thank goodness my class doesn't start until 10 tomorrow, so I have the luxury of staying up a bit late tonight.
It's funny, the website for the movie has a countdown clock for the trailer, but the word was the trailer was going to premiere at midnight PST, not midnight for every time zone. But no one knew for sure, so people were setting their computer time zones to +13 GMT, which meant that the clock would be at zero at about 4 am Sunday morning.
I was pretty sure that it wasn't going to work, and I certainly didn't feel like staying up that late last night on the off-chance that it would, so I just went to bed, and figured if I somehow woke up, I'd wake up. There have been times in the past where I've gone to bed, and needed to wake up for something Very Important (but too silly to actually set an alarm clock for) at some ungodly hour, and I have managed to spontaneously wake up.
And so this morning I actually woke up at 5:30 am. Mostly because I was having a bad dream about watching the trailer and Mulder and Scully were all wrong and it was horrible. Unbelievable. I dragged myself out of bed, stumbled to the computer, and checked. Countdown clock was at zero, but no trailer. I went back to bed.
I'm crazy, I know.
7 more minutes to go. GAH.
Edit (12:01am) - I think we broke the site. Like, nothing is coming up now. Oh for the love of all that is holy!

Congrats on Bandit's achievement! =) I think i like the furry sheeps better than the shaved ones. Did you take any videos?
No, no video. :( We brought the camcorder, but it was either that or take pictures, and I wasn't too confident about how the test was going to go, so I opted for pictures instead of video evidence, hehe.
Next time!
Yeah, these sheep hadn't been sheered yet, although someone mentioned that these might be "hair" sheep, where the wool just falls out on its own.
