Friday Thoughts

Nothing really cohesive to write about today. Work was a bit hectic the past couple of days and I had to skip lunch as a result, so I wasn't able to sit down and write. The good news is, a new experiment I've been working on was successful yesterday, so I'm pretty stoked about that. It takes almost a whole week for me to set this thing up, and the last time I tried it, I used too much DNA and it didn't work very well.

What's funny is that I rarely get excited about bench work (I prefer working on the robotic systems), but it is kind of cool to see something work out nicely.

Another thing I tried last weekend was to work on this damn blog. I sat down at the computer for a little while on Saturday and tried to read up on the MT4 templates. It's so problematic because Movable Type changed the entire templating system for version 4, so I really have to relearn how to do everything (not that I remembered how it was done the old way). I'm tempted to just load the default templates onto this blog and then work from there, rather than try to adapt the current template to the new system. I just don't know if I have the time and energy to attempt the latter.

Mostly I want to get the commenting feature fixed (I'm still having to go and manually approve comments, and at work it keeps firewalling the comments section, so I can't do it from here). I know the archives are all screwy, so starting fresh may just be the best option. So if the site looks radically different at some point, you'll know why.

Was driving through Mountain View the other day and saw something amusing. There were two cops that had pulled someone over for a traffic stops. These cops were riding what looked like modified dirt bikes. Seriously. At first I thought they were bicycle cops, but these things had motors on them, and the tires and everything looked like what you'd see on a dirt bike. They must have been new too, because one of the cops spent a couple minutes just trying to park the bike on the curb. He or she couldn't get it to stand without toppling over. The other cop walked over to the other side and put the kickstand down, and they still couldn't get it to stand. The two of them were fussing over it for the longest time, while the person in the car just waited. How embarrassing.

Not sure what our plans are for this weekend. I think we'll probably go see either The Happening or The Hulk tonight. I'm kinda leaning towards seeing the former, even though the reviews have been less than stellar.

One last bit of excitement - my cousin Mark and his partner are getting married! My whole family is going to fly down to San Diego next month for the ceremony. I'm thrilled and excited for them. We're just flying down the day off and flying back early the next morning since it's on a Monday. I am definitely going to be racking up the Southwest flights this summer!
