Meant to write about a couple other things yesterday, but just completely forgot. I think I was in a bit of a rush to get to the lab and not all that inspired writing-wise. Hey, I can't be a genius every day.
Marc and I saw the most exasperating thing Friday night. We were stopping to get dinner - pulled into the parking lot, and as we were driving down one of the parking aisles (is that what you call them?), we saw this lady standing at the end of the aisle, right in the middle, gabbing away on her cell phone. She was literally blocking the end of the road. We found a space and parked, and as we were walking towards the restaurant, this lady was still on the phone, and at this point, she had wandered out into the road that ran between the parking spaces and the strip mall. She stopped and stood there, in the middle of the road, and was still talking on the phone, with her back to oncoming traffic.
We were waiting to cross when we saw a BMW driving towards her - and the car actually accelerated as it approached her. Obviously, the driver saw that this lady was oblivious, and standing in the middle of the road, and wanted to prove a point. Marc started to yell, "Hey lady, you might want to move!" as the car zoomed up to her and stopped about a foot away from her. It wasn't until then that she finally turned around (she never even heard Marc) and saw the car. She never stopped talking, just nonchalantly stepped out of the way.
Egads. Some people are just so mind-bogglingly stupid.
Did anyone watch the Belmont Stakes on Saturday? We took a break from our spring cleaning to watch it, and boy, what a disappointment. I don't typically watch horse racing, but I usually take an interest if the Triple Crown is in play. Big Brown looked like he was in the perfect position for a while, but then when Da 'Kara started to pull away and you could see the jockey starting to get on BB's neck and he wasn't surging, it was shocking. It was good that the jockey at least eased up once he knew it wasn't going to happen instead of beating on the horse to the finish.
On the other hand, it was nice to see karma come up and bite that trainer in the ass. I was reading articles leading up the race, and that guy had the biggest mouth ever. Talking about how it was a "foregone conclusion" that the horse would win, and guaranteeing a victory right before the race. Even more stupidity.
Marc and I found some embarrassing things as we were cleaning up over the weekend. Lots of letters and stuff that we wrote to each other when we were dating, heh. I also found like 3 or 4 diaries of mine - each of them had about 4 pages worth of entries before I quit writing in them (this blog probably qualifies as the longest "diary" I have ever kept).
It's a bit mortifying to read things that you've written in the past. Especially my old diary entries, since I tended to wax dramatic in those. Bleh. I also came across a story I'd started to write, which I wanted to throw away, but Marc insisted on keeping. I used to love to write, but I don't think I ever finished anything. I really admire people who can write good fiction - I always wish I had that talent!
One more bit of productivity from the weekend - I finally, FINALLY went to the dentist on Friday and got my crown taken care of. Is this TMI? I've had this silver crown since I was like, 12, and it was a temporary which I was supposed to have replaced when I turned 18. That never happened, and every dentist I've been to has bugged me about it, but I just kept putting it off. So now I'm nearly 30, and I finally decided to take care of the damn thing. I've got a temporary for two weeks, and they're going to replace it with a porcelain one, which should look a helluva lot nicer than that silver one.
So now you all know more about my teeth than you probably care to, but since this is a somewhat monumental happening for me teeth-wise, I wanted to mark the moment.
