We actually had a decently productive weekend (ie: not one where we're just busy or completely vegetative). It was rewarding, but ultimately exhausting. We did manage to have fun as well.
Kenny was in town for the weekend (he's actually moving back to NorCal at the end of the month), so he and Leslie both came up Friday night to hang out. None of us felt like dropping $11 on Kung Fu Panda, so we just rented a movie. Fairly slim pickings there as well, so we got We Own the Night, which starred Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg. It was actually a pretty decent movie.
Saturday morning Marc and I set about the task of cleaning up our guest bedroom that has been stacked nearly floor to ceiling with boxes and all sorts of stuff that Marc moved from the garage when he cleaned that out so that we could fit two cars in it. It's been a thorn in our sides for a while.
I had a lot of boxes filled with stuff that I've been lugging around since I moved out of my parents' house. Most of it was junk that went in the trash pile. But yeah, I have a lot of stuff. I like to collect things. I found a ton of X-Files related things, like magazines and such. And to think, I acquired this much stuff back when I was in high school/college and had no money. I can only imagine how much memorabilia I would've had if I'd actually had income.
We went to WalMart and bought a bunch of storage containers to sort everything into. Pet stuff, keepsakes, collectibles, etc. There's some things that I have absolutely no use for but have sentimental value, so those are all going in one box.
One nice surprise: I found a box where I had packed away a bunch of stuff that I haven't looked at in years (most of it was junk that I guess I thought was valuable enough to store back then), and one of the items was an old rabbit's foot. Well, this thing was completely dessicated. You could see all the bones in the foot. So gross. And there were little husks lying around, like bugs had once been crawling around. Eeew.
We took a break in the evening and went down to my parents' for dinner. We ended up hanging out there until pretty late - I think we finally nailed down dates for our trip to Hawaii (the four of us are taking my parents down - they've never been). We're going to go to Oahu most likely.
Sunday morning I took Bandit herding as usual, and then Marc and I went to the Container Store to look for more storage boxes. Funny enough, they actually don't carry a ton of plastic containers there - I think WalMart had more. But they did have storage solutions for a lot of other things, so we did find some stuff. I bought a couple of CD storage boxes, but I realized later that I didn't buy nearly enough.
We spent the rest of the day continuing to go through stuff. The room is still half full, although most of it now is either seasonal/holiday stuff or things that we just can't unpack or do anything with, really. Our plan is to install some heavy duty ceiling racks in the garage, so I think a lot of stuff can get stored up there.
It'll be nice to finally fully reclaim that room - we did get a lot accomplished though!
