The Not-So Happening

So as you've no doubt noticed, the layout of the site is completely different, and bonkers. I'm using one of the built-in layouts from MT, but I've been trying to tweak it to customize it a bit. Was having a hell of a time doing it yesterday, and late last night the site decided to crash on me entirely, so I wasn't able to finish. Everything's back up and running now, so I'm hoping to make some additional progress tonight. Just be advised that things might look funky for a while.

I did, however, manage to find a plugin that will allow commenting to work properly. I don't know what changed between the old MT version and this new one, but this new one continually put regular comments into spam, while allowing all the spam comments to go through. It's probably due to the fact that I was using an external plugin before that did a great job of catching spam.

Anyways, so I can now "trust" certain commenters, so that when someone leaves a comment from a specific e-mail address and IP that's trusted, it will be posted. At least, that's the idea. So be aware that you should always use the same e-mail address when posting comments (I don't care if it's a fake one). I can assign different IPs to the same e-mail address as well.

I think there's also a function where people can register and login to comment - I still have to figure that out, but if I can get that going, that'll make things even easier.

So hopefully this will work! In actuality, this new layout should turn out a lot nicer and be easier for me to maintain and modify.

So Friday night we went to go see The Happening. Egads, was that terrible. I really wanted it to be good, because I'd like to see another good movie from M. Night Shyamalan, but this has to be the worst of the films of his that I've seen (I never saw Lady in the Water).

I won't give away any spoilers, but I really don't know what he was trying to accomplish with this flick. The acting was terrible to the point of ludicrousness - the audience actually laughed at a number of parts. And they weren't supposed to be funny. I've seen The Departed, I know Mark Wahlberg can act, so I don't know what the hell he was doing here. I'm not familiar with Zooey Deschanel, so I have no idea about her acting, but it was bad here, and I spent half the movie convinced there was something inherently wrong with her character when there wasn't.

The dialogue was terrible too, which I'm sure contributed to the lousy acting (coupled with what was probably bad directing). It was stilted and fake and awkward in so many ways. Some people have said that this was supposed to be a B-horror movie, but if that's the case, then why didn't they make it look like one? Because the visuals were the only decent thing about this movie (and the one thing Shyamalan hasn't seem to have lost his touch with). The incongruousness of it all made the film so confusing and surreal.

I just, I don't even know what to say about it. Yeah, there were some scenes that made me jump and cover my eyes, but in between that I was either yelling at the people or laughing at them. Talk about 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Hell, the best part of the movie was the X-Files trailer they showed in the beginning. I don't even think Marc would disagree with that.

Didn't do a whole lot the rest of the weekend. I spent a few hours Saturday and Sunday at Petsmart with the kittens, trying to get them adopted. Both days were super slow though, with everyone probably busy with graduations and Father's Day and vacations. So no luck getting any of the boys new homes.

We met up with Leslie and my parents Saturday night to have dinner for Father's Day. Then we headed over to their house afterwards for cake.

Sunday I came home from Petsmart with a nice little headache, so I ended up napping for a couple of hours before dinner.

So that's about it for the weekend. This Sunday I'm flying down to LA for the LA Film Fest. They're doing a sneak peak on, of course, the XF film, and Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, and David Duchovny are all going to be there. I think they're going to show a few scenes from the movie and have a Q&A session and possibly sign autographs. The things I do for this show!
