I've always felt that life was a system of checks and balances, and so it goes to figure that on this week that the movie I've been waiting 6 years for is finally coming out, I get bad news. If you've paid attention to the news today, you might have heard that my company, Roche, is looking to buy the remaining shares of Genentech (they currently own 56%). As a result, they're closing down our site here in Palo Alto.
I heard the buyout news this morning as we were leaving for work, but I didn't give it much thought. It wasn't until I got into the office that someone told me that they'd sent out an e-mail with the closure announcement.
We don't really know what's going to happen yet. Some people are going to be relocated to Genentech, and others will be relocated to our New Jersey site. I don't know what's happening with my department, but I suspect we're all going to be let go. No one knows when it's going to happen either - could be several months to over a year. Or less.
On the bright side, I should get about 7 months severance, given that I've been working here for 8 years. The question now is, what to do with myself? Try a new career, or look for another job in pharma?
But, I'm still going to go to Vegas this weekend and enjoy the movie. And today there are a bunch of awesome new interviews from the press junkets that were held over the weekend. They did joint interviews with Gillian (looking quite pregnant now!) and David, which is awesome, because I can't remember the last time they did one together.
Here's a cute one from Access Hollywood where they interview each other:
And another cute one from ET Online: Click here.
Another joint interview on the Early Show:
So, I'm just enjoying the awesomeness of these today. :)
In another piece of good news, however, Bandit did manage to pass his second JHD test on Saturday, which means he gets his title!
