SQUEEEEEE

I'm back from Vegas! And let me just say that my life is now complete. The movie was awesome. So much more than I ever expected to get. I'll post more about my weekend tonight/tomorrow once I get some of my pictures uploaded. For now, I'm just going to talk about the movie (I'll keep it non-spoilery).

Firstly, I do wish that I'd managed to stay away from spoilers more than I had. I would've liked to have been surprised by some of the things. I still enjoyed it immensely though. :)

I went in without high expectations for the plot, and ended up being pleasantly surprised. With all the bad reviews it was getting, I was expecting something horrible, and it wasn't. It wasn't the best - it doesn't touch some of the best X-Files episodes - but I liked it. I think the problem is that this movie should have been released in the fall instead of summer, because it's definitely not a blockbuster-type summer flick. I think the reviewers were expecting aliens and explosions and gore or something. It's more introspective, and there's a lot more talking than action. It's tense, not scary, but I've never been scared much by the show either. Roger Ebert gave it a great review that I think really "got" the movie.

All that aside, the real reason I was so looking forward to this movie was to see Mulder and Scully on the screen again, and the movie didn't disappoint in that department in any way. OMG. I've waited 15 years to see something like this, and I thought it would never happen. Never thought Chris Carter would actually give us something like this.

And CC was right - it really is a love story at its heart. Another reason why it should've been released in the fall. It makes me sad that it didn't do well at the box office and that it wasn't better reviewed, because it seemed to be a labor of love for the writers and actors. Plus, I would have loved to have a third movie, and now that seems like a long shot. I think FOX will still make money on it, given that the budget was so small, but I don't know if it would be enough for them to greenlight another film. But if this is the last we see of Mulder and Scully, I can be happy.

They really made this film for the fans, too. You don't have to have seen the show at all to watch the movie, but I think it's so much more rewarding if you know the characters and know their journey. I'm going to risk sounding cheesy here, but it really felt like a gift to the fans.

Gillian and David were both great, especially Gillian, who was brilliant (Scully was given the more meaty stuff). I could watch these two all day. They both say so much with just their eyes and faces.

Sigh. I've seen it three times already, and I'm still euphoric. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD/blu-ray!
