Irresponsible Driving

I forgot to share this little tidbit from our weekend in my summary on Monday.

Marc and I drove home separately from my parents' house on Saturday night as we had driven separately to dinner (due to Marc having to work all day). We're generally competetive, and it's certainly no different when we're driving, which is probably a Bad Thing.

So Marc took off in the Mustang just a few seconds ahead of me, and I was driving the TL. I got on 680 and he was already nowhere in sight. I drive pretty fast as it is, and I didn't see him at all on the freeway until we got to the Stoneridge exit, which was almost to home. At that point, I was in the fast lane, and he was in the middle lane. I was about to pass him, when he got into the fast lane just to make sure I couldn't pass.

Neither of us likes to lose - we both want to beat the other home.

But at one point I did manage to pass him, and was ahead of him as we got off the freeway and were nearing the house. I was driving (speeding) down Dublin Blvd. to the left turn light to turn into our neighborhood, when Marc came charging up on my right and totally cut me off to get into the left turn lane.

It was about a second before this that I noticed blue and red lights in my rear view mirror. At that point, I'm thinking, "Oh shit. We're both going to get pulled over."

Marc and I are both stopped at the light, me behind him, and the cop pulls up next to me, and noses the police cruiser behind Marc's bumper. The light turned green, and Marc turned and pulled over with the cop behind him. I briefly thought about stopping to try to "save" my husband, but elected to just coolly drive by. I didn't even dare to look!

I think it was about another 10 minutes before Marc finally pulled up to the house. He was shaking his head, and then smugly got out of the car and announced that he had managed to get out of a ticket. The cop had given him a warning and told him that there were "better places to drive a high-performance vehicle like that."

Lucky bastard.

I declared then that there is to be no more racing home. I can control myself, Marc can't, so it's going to be up to me to not egg him on. Bad, bad, bad.

I'm pretty surprised that the cop didn't pull us both over, but maybe it was the way Marc cut me off (not to mention the car he was driving) that convinced her to just pull him over.

Anyway, lesson learned!
