Time to Go Home Yet?

It's Friday afternoon. Can I go home yet? Anyways, Cal won the court case to have the injunction on the athletic center/oak grove lifted, and it sounds like they've started cutting down the trees. The four remaining tree sitters are moored up in one tree - the University is cutting all the trees around it. Live video of it. Thank God this is almost over.

As I was leaving the house this morning, I got about halfway down our street when I had to stop the car because there was a baby walking in the street. I kid you not. I'm not sure how old the kid was, but I don't think he could've been more than 2. He was walking around, barefoot, in nothing but a onesie and a diaper. And there was a cat following him around.

I looked around, and couldn't see any adults in sight. When I stopped the car, the kid started walking towards me! So I put the car in park, got out, and started asking the kid where his mommy was. He just responded with "Mommy!" and pointed to, well, nowhere, which was not helpful in the least.

He was pretty much wandering around between two houses, walking on the sidewalk, in the dirt, between bushes, etc. I didn't see any open front doors, so I just kept talking to him to try to figure out just exactly where he'd come from. At this point I was starting to become really concerned. Finally he started toddling towards this open gate to a backyard. So I quickly ran to the front door of that house and rang the doorbell.

This guy opened the door, and I'm like, "Hey, is that your kid?" The guy dashed out, picked up the kid, and said to him, "Alex, what are you doing out here?" I'm guessing Alex was wondering the same thing.

He thanked me, and I was trying not to look all judgmental, but it was hard not to look a bit shocked.

Marc downloaded some of the Hawaii photos last night, and I have to get the pictures off the other camera tonight. I'll try to work on them over the weekend so I have a few to post.

We have a friend who put her two year old down in bed, then went to take a shower. The two-year-old got out of bed, moved a chair over to the front door, unlocked the hotel-style lock, unlocked the dead bolt, and wandered down from their second-story apartment to the street. A neighbor called the police who noticed that their front door was ajar and entered the house. The mom heard pounding on the bathroom door and peeped out in a towel to find two stern-looking policemen in her house with her daughter!

I'm hoping I don't have a similar experience...

All I can say is external locks on the kid's door.

KIDDING!

But seriously, these babies can be pretty good escape artists!

Now THAT'S crazy!
