Excuse Me While I Kick This Blog

I went through an hour of frustration yesterday while I tried to, once again, fix the stupid problem with comments. It actually works in a sense - just not the way I wish it would, and there may be no way around that. As long as people comment with the same username and e-mail address every time, it usually won't get spammed. My frustration stems mostly from when people want to change the e-mail address they use - once you're registered with a particular e-mail address, there seems to be no way to change that. I've even tried outright deleting users, but they somehow stay in the system. It's annoying as hell. Plus there are other a few other problems that I just haven't worked out and haven't had the time to. Sigh.

Aside from that though, we had a nice weekend. We drove down to SJ on Saturday morning to check out a new fish store (they used to have a place in Fremont) called The Aquarium Showroom. Huge place, and a really cool, ginormous pirate ship display in the front that had 3 large display tanks plus a shark pool.

We spent a couple hours in the afternoon washing the Mustang, which was embarrassingly filthy. Found a chip in the paint in the front bumper. Grr.

Didn't do much that was interesting in the evening. Did a water change on the big tank, then went to have a late dinner at Black Angus with one of those 4-course meal for two coupons, and ate way to much food.

Sunday we went to Home Depot to pick up some pieces of door/window trim. When we set up the fish tank two years ago, I had forgotten to frame the in-wall opening to account for the fact that the water level in the tank was about an inch below the actual top of the tank. As a result, there's always been a gap at the top of the tank where you can see where the water line stops. It's minor, but kind of annoying to look at - it looks sloppy, and a lot of light ends up spilling out into the family room.

I've been lazy about fixing it because it requires removing most of the trim, but finally felt motivated this weekend. Filling in the gap (between the tank and the trim) was the trickiest part, but we solved it by laminating a few pieces of pine trim together and then nailing/gluing it to the back of the framing trim that we were lowering. I know that probably doesn't make any sense.

We worked on it while watching the football games, and managed to have it finished in a few hours. All that's left to do is to putty over the nails and repaint the whole frame. It looks much better now though. I have before/after pictures, but didn't have time to upload them. Tomorrow, maybe.

The new blue jaw triggerfish is fitting in nicely now. He's swimming more and more with the tangs, and eating pretty much everything I feed.

I took a couple videos of the fish:

I think I'll take another one during feeding time. These fish are pigs!
