I almost can't muster up the energy to write, because I'm so tired. Marc came down with some sort of nasty stomach bug last night, and ended up spending most of the night running to the toilet. When he was actually in bed, he was fidgeting and moaning. I felt bad, but at around 3:30 am I finally had to go and sleep downstairs on the couch just so I could get some rest. Needless to say, waking up at 6 wasn't easy. Marc, obviously, stayed home from work today. I think the vomiting has subsided a bit, but it sounds like he's pretty weak from the ordeal.
So, as for the rest of our two-week break. On Saturday, after the herding trial, we went up to AT&T Park in SF for the Emerald Bowl, where Cal was playing Miami. We had a great time, except for one unforgettable incident. Our seats were in the sideline bleachers, and since we were near the student section, we ended up standing the whole game. At some point, near the end of the first quarter, my brother leaned over and told us that the guy standing next to him had just peed in his beer cup.
At first I wasn't sure what I'd just heard, but when I looked over, on the bench in front of the guy standing next to my brother was this big wet spot. No cup. Apparently, the guy had poured the rest of his beer into his friend's cup, placed the cup down on the bench in front of him (it wasn't even his seat!), and proceeded to whip it out and aim. The wet spot on the bench was due to his, ahem, misfires, and I guess they'd tried to wash it off with the remainder of the beer. My brother said he'd dumped the pee cup under the bleachers.
Needless to say, the guys standing in front of this guy were pissed, as it was their seats he'd just peed on, and I think he may have even got some on the guys themselves. One of them went and got Pee Boy kicked out. His friend left as well.
Unbelievable!
Then there was also this cranky old guy who was sitting behind the students, who kept yelling at them to "SIT THE FUCK DOWN!" He was downright beligerent about it. It's the student section, dude! And then he complained that he paid good money, $75, for the seats. Which was about $25 more than the rest of us had paid. For bleacher seats.
The rest of our week was less eventful. We pretty much took the time to get stuff done around the house. We bought storage racks to hang from the garage ceiling, and it took us about a day (with a break to go to my parents' house for dinner) to install them. We also bought some wall racks and cabinets to put up in the garage as well. Right now we have all these boxes and crap in a spare bedroom, so it'll be nice to move it all to the garage.
We spent another two days cleaning the fish tank and the fish room. The refugium (I should've taken pictures) was absolutely gross - everything was covered in cyanobacteria. I ended up emptying all the water and removing all the sand and replacing it with new sand. Then Marc and I removed some old, dirty sand from the tank itself and replaced that as well. Marc also cleaned all the acrylic (we were getting to the point where it was starting to become difficult to see the fish clearly). The tank and the room both look soooo much better now.
Wednesday night we went to Elaine's new place to celebrate New Year's with a bunch of friends. We had a good time, and she lives just a couple of minutes from us, so driving home was no problem. We also hung out with Cynthia and Steve on Friday night - watched some football and played Guitar Hero World Tour and Cynthia and I made lemon cupcakes which turned out to be quite yummy. I also found out that Rock Band came out with a downloadable pack of No Doubt songs, which had me totally stoked.
And that, I think, was about it! Nothing terribly exciting, but it was nice to mostly relax and get some tasks done around the house. We stayed up too late most nights though, and now my sleep schedule is all out of whack. I think tonight I'll have to try to stay up after work and just go to bed early.
