Super Bowl Weekend

Had a fun weekend, although it seemed to fly by way too fast.

We were hosting a Super Bowl party on Sunday, so we spent most of the day Saturday cleaning the house and getting things ready. First thing we had to do though, was drop off our foster cat at Petsmart. We are way overdue on getting this cat adopted out, so I'm hoping we'll find an adopter soon.

We had pizza delivered for dinner, then went to the store late at night to buy food for the party. We tried not to go overboard on food, but we still managed to fill a whole cart.

Sunday morning was spent finishing up cleaning and preparing food. I made cookies, and ended up making like 3 batches of them. Not because I needed that many, but because I screwed up. The first batch I made I had a brain fart and used 1 1/3 cups of flour instead of 1 3/4 cups. This resulted in very flat, browned, crispy cookies. I realized this after I used half the dough, so I added additional flour to the remaining half, and those cookies turned out much better.

Then I went to make the second batch (first was with nuts, second without), and while I had used the right amount of flour this time, the cookies turned out a bit flat. They tasted fine and whatnot, but they just didn't look great.

I looked online for tips, and tried using cold butter instead of softened for the third batch, and also chilled the dough balls before baking, which all helped a little bit. They still were a bit flat to my liking. I think maybe I also need a proper cookie sheet. I'll have to try again soon - well, maybe in like 2 years when we finally finish the rest of the cookies I made.

We had 18 people (including 2 babies) at our house for the game. We managed to fit the adults in the family room, and we set up two TVs in the loft upstairs - one with the game, and one hooked up to the XBox and Wii - for the kids, which seemed to work out nicely.

The game itself turned out to be pretty good. I was sort of rooting for the Cards, mostly because they were the underdogs, and it would've been neat to see them win.

We watched the hour-long "Office" after the game while cleaning up, then chilled out for a bit before going to bed. I was pretty pooped!

I should have crashed your party!

Btw ... I was reading about this because my cookies were flatter ... but it also depends on how old your baking soda is, and baking soda vs baking powder makes a difference ... basically lots of food chemistry details. My cookies looked nothing like Leslie's ...
