Just when I was starting to have a little faith in "American Idol," last night happened. I mean, it wasn't completely awful, but it certainly didn't make me feel like this season might turn out better than the last few.
Adam had another solid performance, but I don't know that I'd go and buy an album of his, what with the screaming and all. Kris Allen was surprisingly good, Matt Giraud was surprisingly not. Megan has got to go at some point, and really? The shoutouts to their "fans" that these guys do is just annoying. Same for Scott and Danny - your time is up. And I'm not getting the Lil Rounds hype the judges keep heaping on us - her performance of "I Surrender" was just not that good. Kelly Clarkson sang that on Season 1 with freaking laryngitis, and her rendition still kicked the crap out of Lil's.
I guess we'll see who goes tonight. My money is on Megan, but maybe her "fans" will pull through again.
Anyways, one sucky thing that happened yesterday was that I managed to break my Super.Fi 5 Pro earphones. I'm always listening to my iPod when I'm working in the lab, and yesterday I was listening to it while preparing for a training session I had to conduct that afternoon. I had the iPod in my back pocket, and when I started the training, I tucked the earbuds into my front pocket, leaving the rest of the cord hanging at my side. Well at one point I had braced my knee up on a chair, and as I went to stand up, the heel of my boot caught on the cord and yanked it pretty good. I didn't think much of it until later, when I was about to walk back to my other building and popped my earbuds in and heard nothing. A close inspection revealed that I had managed to tear the wires inside completely apart.
I was pretty verklempt as these earphones were really expensive (but oh so much better than the stock Apple earbuds). It wasn't until I did a little searching online for replacements that I found out they sell replacement cables, which only cost $20. Turns out the earbuds detach easily from the cable, so it's a piece of cake to fix. Whew! They shipped today, so I'm hoping to have them by Friday.
In the meantime, Marc's letting me borrow his Shure earphones. I went to put them in (they're in-ear like my Super.Fi's), and it seemed a little odd - I hadn't noticed it before, but it seemed like my right ear was a lot smaller than my left, because I had a really hard time cramming the bud in there. It wasn't until I took a closer look at it that I realized that Marc had different sized silicone tips on the two buds. I called him to ask him if he'd done this on purpose, and it turns out that he didn't even know - and he'd been wondering why one was always harder to get in than the other! Oy. That's my husband, ladies and gents.
So, new "Lost" tonight! So excited.
