Well, Here We Go

It's funny, I was actually thinking of this title for today's entry during the day yesterday (yeah, I sometimes blog in my head), and it happened to be a line spoken in "Lost" last night. Spooky!

So today is officially the start of our first (and hopefully only) IVF cycle. No injections yet - I have to go back on birth control pills for a little bit (ironically) and then I'll start the first of the injections, lupron, probably next Thursday or Friday. Tomorrow I have to go in to get some bloodwork done, and then next week I have an appointment to have my antral follicles counted, so they can calculate the dosage(s) of my medication(s).

Didn't do much Tuesday night, although I was supremely annoyed at work that day. I had an appointment to work with someone (at their request) at 1:30 in the afternoon. I'd never met the guy before, though I got the impression he's worked here for a while. I got everything ready to go in the lab, and I get a call from him at 1pm to tell me that he's running behind, and that he probably won't be ready until 2:30. Which was fine, as that's pretty much par for the course when people are running these experiments for the first time.

So 2:30 comes and goes, and then 3:00 comes and goes, and then 3:30 comes and goes, and I don't hear from the guy. I finally call him at 3:45, but of course he's not there. I finally, FINALLY get a call from him at 4:20, and he says he's finally ready to go. I lie a bit and say that I'll help him out as much as I can, but I carpool and have to leave at 5.

So this guy shows up in the lab, and I start to run his stuff, except there's nothing in his samples. Turns out the idiot forgot to shake the bottle before he dispensed the stuff. I ask him if he has the bottle with him, which of course he doesn't, it's in his lab which is a 5 minute walk from mine. I tell him to run and go get it, because there's literally nothing I can do with the rest of his stuff unless he gets me this sample.

I finally finish running his crap at 5:30. And this whole time? Not a single apology about the fact that he was 3 hours late and that he kept me late. Not a one. So this guy is officially on my shit list, and he's not getting any slack in the future. I'm generally pretty laid back and forgiving, but lack of common courtesy pisses me off.

So anyways. I took Bandit to agility class last night, which was fun, if not freezing. He's like great 80% of the time, and a complete doof the other 20%. And I can't get annoyed at him because he looks at me with that face, and I just melt.

Watched "Lost" of course, and it was a Miles-centric ep that was pretty good. I liked getting a little of his backstory, and his scenes with Hurley were golden. Kate did another stupid thing, and for someone who was such a con-artist before, you gotta wonder why she's such a shitty liar. Still kinda liking the new Jack, as much as I can like Jack these days. Not enough James and Juliet for me, but the preview for next week showing them holding hands made me squee a little bit. They are so my new Mulder and Scully.

"Lost" had a party to celebrate their 100th episode (airing in two weeks). They had a really cute cake with little figurines of all the characters, which I heard was made by one of those Food Network "Challenge" people. Pics are here (will open in a separate window).

Lastly, while I was typing this up, I happened to glance outside the window of my office - there's a small field/courtyard outside this new office - and I see this humongous black bird, like the size of a cat, swoop down, and it has a mouse in its beak. It wasn't exactly a tiny mouse either. The poor mouse was squirming about, and fruitlessly flailing its legs. The bird would drop the mouse briefly before attacking it with its beak, and after a minute or so the mouse stopped moving. Then the bird picked up the mouse and flew off with it. I was spared having to watch it actually eat its breakfast. Yuck.
