Had a nice weekend! I had a bit of a hectic day at work on Friday (of course), but still managed to get out of the lab at a reasonable time. Marc and I had Chipotle for dinner, and my brothers and my cousin Henry came up to join us to go see Star Trek.
The movie was awesome! I really enjoyed it, and managed to catch most of the in jokes, even not having watched the original series (just the movies). The one thing I did miss was that the guy who died was a redshirt (one running in-joke in the Trek movies is that there's always minor character who shows up wearing a red uniform and invariably winds up dying - "Lost" has used it as an in-joke too, ala Boone, Frogurt, and most recently the Other that Sayid shot - and there are a couple of major characters currently wearing red shirts).
Anyways, I really enjoyed it, and I think Marc even really liked it, and he's about as anti-Trek as you can get. I won't go into more details as I don't want to spoil it, but I thought the visuals, story, and action were fantastic. Karl Urban was spot-on as Bones, and Chris Pine was way hotter than William Shatner ever was as Kirk.
We didn't do too much on Saturday - got the oil changed on two of the cars, and discovered that the TL was badly in need of two new front tires. Not only were they down to the tread wear indicators, but it looked like the steel belt was showing through one of the sidewalls. Not good. So we quickly took the car in and got new tires. Tires are annoyingly expensive, especially when you're talking 18" wheels. Not looking forward to when we have to replace the 20's on the Mustang.
We were supposed to go up to the city that night for my friend Leslie's birthday, but I decided that my shots were going to be too much of a hassle to deal with, so we opted to stay home and went to Macaroni Grill for dinner instead. After, we went to the store to buy stuff to cook for Mother's Day. The plan was to go to my parents' house and just do an at-home meal rather than hassle with the restaurant crowds.
Sunday morning we had to get up early to go to the clinic for yet another sonogram and blood draw. I still had a bruise on my right arm from the last blood draw, so I had the phlebotomist draw from my left, which I HATE, because the veins are almost non-existent in that arm. She ended up having to dig around for one for a bit, which hurt like a mofo. For the sonogram, they measured the sizes of my follicles - I got a call afterwards with instructions to decrease my Follistim dosage. Not sure why exactly, but I'll probably ask my nurse.
We drove down to Fremont afterwards to my parents' place, and started prepping food. Marc and I brought ribs, chicken, salad, and rolls. My brothers brought sausages, scallops, smoked salmon and dessert, and my cousin showed up with king crab legs and some fruit. Most of the food turned out really well, although I ended up overcooking the ribs. I normally cook those on a charcoal grill, but my parents only have a gas grill, and I think there might have been too much heat. Other than that though, we had a really nice meal.
We got my mom a Road Trip for her new iPod. I'm not sure if she'll use it or not. My dad bought her the iPod so she could play music in the car, but she hasn't figured out how to even get songs on there yet, so I'm guessing she won't be using the Road Trip right away. My dad bought her a laptop for Mother's Day (and also picked up an LCD TV for himself, heh), which I thought was a really sweet gesture, especially since they don't often exchange gifts.
After lunch, Marc and I went to the mall so that he could buy a couple new suits, as all his old suits are like 10 years old. We did laundry, then went out for a walk after dinner. Gotta love the warm weather.
Two more days until the "Lost" finale! I'm simultaneously stoked and anxious. Wish it were Wednesday already.
There's an interesting new promo for it from Sky One:
This screen cap from 0:22 has me worried! (Is that smoke?) Bwahhh!

Missed you on Saturday. We have to go biking one of these weekends! I still need to watch Star Trek. Can't wait till I can see it!
Yeah, I was bummed we couldn't go - I thought about it, but just didn't want to deal with all that mess in a public restroom!
