Flying Solo

Marc was up in Vancouver visiting his grandmother over the weekend, so I was pretty much on my own starting from Thursday night. It was a good opportunity to go see the Harry Potter movie with my brothers on Friday, since Marc doesn't like Harry Potter.

I really enjoyed the film. I think part of it had to do with the fact that I haven't read the book since it first came out, so there's very little I remember of it, save for the overarching plot. So I have no idea what they changed or omitted. I thought some of the kids' acting was better too. Even though it's kind of a "filler" chapter in the story, it didn't feel that way to me in terms of enjoyment, although I can see how some would feel that way.

With Marc being gone, Bandit wasted no time in taking his spot on the bed - pretty much every morning I woke up to find the dog with his chin resting on my shoulder, blinking at me and sticking his tongue out to lick my nose every time I opened my eyes. The nice thing is, if I close my eyes and go back to sleep, he's pretty content to leave me be. He'll sleep as long as I sleep, and he'll get up as soon as I do.

I drove down to Fremont on Saturday to meet up with my family for dim sum, which was nice. My parents just got back from a company sponsored bus tour of the Pacific Northwest - they drove to Seattle and Portland, and made a few other stops along the way. I've been to both cities before, and I really like them. For big cities, they have a more intimate feel, and seem to have the good parts of big city life without the bad parts.

I went with my brothers to Fry's afterwards (Leslie was looking for a new TV), and then went home and took a nap in the afternoon. I thought about washing the Mustang, but it was just too damn hot.

I went out with Elaine for dinner - we went to this place in Dublin that serves dosas, which are these thin crepes that are fried and filled with various things. We got one that was two feet long! It was pretty good, although I think I had like 3 glasses of water thanks to the spiciness.

Afterwards we went to see Bruno, which was pretty hilarious, although fairly over the top. There were some pretty funny moments though. I got back home at around 11, and started watching Babylon A.D. on blu-ray (too many movies in one weekend, maybe?). I was kind of messing around on the laptop at the same time, so I was a little bit lost, but the movie was terrible anyways. I didn't even finish it.

I didn't sleep in too much on Sunday, despite having gone to bed so late the night before. I went to the mall and did a tiny bit of shopping, then grabbed some lunch. Went to Safeway after to pick up some stuff for dinner for the week. Then I came home and baked a chocolate cake from scratch! Icing and everything. It turned out pretty well, I think, although my icing skills leave a lot to be desired. I took a picture though, which I'll post tomorrow.

Marc got home around 6:45, so while I was waiting for him I started cooking dinner (I know, it's like I went mental). I made chicken picatta, which is his favorite dish, and served it over angel hair pasta. Turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. I did manage to burn myself pretty nicely when some oil splattered - I have some red blisters on my fingers and even my leg.

It's nice to have Marc back, although it was nice to have the whole house to myself for a little bit too. :)
