Scheduling Madness

| | Comments (3)

I started writing this yesterday and meant to finish it up last night, but just never got around to it. So what started out as a semi-unproductive week for blogging has turned totally unproductive.

I'm in the midst of a bunch of scheduling madness lately, it seems. Work has been nuts, as I'm trying to juggle a bunch of things at once, not the least of which is trying to get everything in my lab ready to move to New Jersey (without me, of course).

I've got about a million dollars worth of instrumentation that needs to be decommissioned, crated, and shipped, all by the end of this month. The tricky part right now is that I need to keep all the systems running for as long as possible so that people can continue using them for experiments, and then timing it so that I can take them offline and get them all decontaminated just in time for the field engineers to come in and prep them for shipment.

But anyways, it's nuts.

I am, however, excited because I managed to score tickets to this month's Comic Con in San Diego for both Marc and I. They've been sold out for months, but they've been putting a handful up for sale on eBay every day, and I finally managed to win a pair (thankfully, they were at a Buy It Now price, so no bidding wars).

I've never been to Comic Con before (and no, I'm not going for comics), but it should be pretty cool. It's a huge event now where they have all these panels for various TV shows and movies. The con goes on for 4 days, but we're only going on Saturday, which is when the "Lost" and "V" panels will be taking place. "Lost" will have the executive producers plus a surprise guest, and usually each year they have something cool to present. Plus, it's the last year they're going to be there, since the show is ending next year. "V" is supposedly going to air the entire pilot, and Elizabeth Mitchell, Scott Wolf and some of the other cast will be there for a Q&A after.

We're flying down the morning of - our flight gets in at 9am, which I'm hoping will be early enough to get into the "Lost" panel, which starts at 11. People apparently line up early for these things, and there's only so much space, so I hope we don't get screwed! Luckily the convention center is only 10 minutes from the airport. The "V" panel ends at 3:45, and our flight home is at 4:50, so we are definitely going to be running around all day!

Then our flight lands at 6:10 in San Jose, and we have the No Doubt concert at 6:30 in Mountain View. The concert is the only reason we're flying out when we are - otherwise I totally would've booked a later flight. Our tickets are non-transferrable, so we can't just ditch the concert.

So it's going to be a crazy day. But I'm so looking forward to it!
