Now that my main lab is all packed up and currently riding on a truck cross-country, work has suddenly become quite boring. I'm actually not sure what I'm supposed to be doing right now. I probably should be catching up on my lab notebooks, which I am embarrassingly behind on. I can't remember if I've mentioned it, but it looks like I'm going to be employed until at least the end of October, and very possibly the end of the year, or close to it.
So on Monday, Marc and I decided to go out to eat at Outback. They now have an extra menu at the table that has the nutritional information for all their food - and wow, if you ever want to eat without feeling guilty, do NOT look at that menu! It is horrible, horrible in terms of calories and sodium. Yikes.
They apparently had overcooked all their prime rib to well done, so I ended up ordering a sirloin instead. I'm pretty sure that what the waiter ended up bringing me was a filet - I asked him what it was, and he said he wasn't sure, but he'd check to see what he put in. He came back a few minutes later and said, "Well, I charged you for a sirloin, but if you got a filet, then lucky you!" Then he cheerily walked away.
Yeah, lucky me if I actually wanted a filet. I don't care that I got a more expensive steak for less - I don't like filet! Well, it's not that I didn't like it, but I would've rather had my sirloin. I need fat on my steak, dammit. I didn't complain though, because what I hate even more than getting the wrong stuff is wasting perfectly good food.
While we were driving home from dinner, we saw what looked like a cat crossing Dublin Blvd. (a busy six-lane street) at a dangerously loping pace. As we drove up closer, we realized that it wasn't a funny-looking cat, but rather a small dog. I asked Marc to turn around, and we pulled up alongside it (it had made it to the opposite sidewalk by this time).
I got up and tried to call it to me, but the dog just ran. It ended up running into our neighborhood, and so we followed it - I asked some random person if they recognized the dog, and they actually did - it supposedly belonged to someone a couple blocks away. They only knew the dog/family because they almost bought the house across the street from them.
We drove home and got some dog treats, then found the dog again, which seemed to be maybe making its way towards the street it supposedly lived on. Tried to get it to come to us again, but it just ran. So we went to the house that the guy hadn't pointed us to - someone was there, but it turned out that he had just moved in. He said the previous owners did have a dog - and it matched the description of the dog we were chasing. They had moved out on Friday.
Long story short - we tried to catch this dog, or at least herd it towards the house, for over a half hour. It ended up crossing another busy street (and almost got hit in the process) before disappearing into another neighborhood. I felt awful, because I'm sure this dog belonged to someone, and I was really afraid it was going to end up getting hit by a car. We finally gave up, and it was too late to call animal control. Hopefully he'll end up back at his old house (if it is indeed the same dog). It just sucks we weren't able to do anything.
So after all that, we went to the store, and I came home and re-made the frosting for my cupcakes, which turned out a lot better this time. Finished the "Battlestar Gallactica" miniseries, and then it was time for bed!
I cooked dinner again last night - and may or may not cook tonight (Bandit and I have agility). But I do have stuff planned for the rest of the week. I am a cooking/baking fiend these days.
Oh, and IVF attempt #2 has officially started. There's not much going on for another week (just birth control pills), but I got my new meds yesterday, and stims are set to start on the 12th. There are significantly fewer injections this time, which is nice. Keeping our fingers crossed that this cycle goes a lot better than the last one.

Poor doggy! So nice of you to try and save it. I hope doggy ends up ok.
Good luck with treatments Bonz and Marc! I've got all fingers crossed for you!
