Busy Again!

This weekend wasn't nearly as crazy as last weekend, but we still managed to keep pretty busy. I started it off on Friday when I went to the Cal Women's Football Huddle for the second year in a row.

This year, Cynthia, Leslie, and Leslie's sister, Allison, accompanied me. Cynthia and I took BART up to Berkeley together, where we met up with the other two and had a quick meal at Top Dog before hiking up to the stadium.

We registered, got our free t-shirts, and then spotted head coach Jeff Tedford chatting with some people. We went up to ask him to sign our shirts - I was thinking of asking him some sort of thoughtful question, or maybe just asking about his thoughts on the upcoming season, but when I got there, all I could blurt out was, "Hi I'm Bonnie." Which is an example of why it's probably a good thing I didn't get an autograph at Comic Con - because seriously, inarticulate verbal diarrhea or constipation, that's what would come out.

We all had a lot of fun - I managed to also get my shirt signed by QB Kevin Riley (I forgot to bring a marker again, so I didn't get more autographs). There was a funny moment when we were all at the wide receivers station, and they had us race 5 yards - the first person to cross the line got to hug one of the players. Well, we ran, and as we crossed the line, one of the ladies fell, lunging across the line. I was like, "holy shit!" and then I realized that it was Cynthia! So based on sheer effort, they awarded her the hug.

There was this one drill where we were supposed to long snap the ball to a partner - Allison was my partner for this drill, and she happened to be standing in front of two of the offensive linemen. Most of the women were either hitting the "quarterback" dead on, or were snapping it short. When I did it, it went sailing over Allison's head, and nearly hit one of the linemen in the head. Both guys were like, "holy crap, what the hell was that!?!" I apologized profusely.

The next time I was up, one of the guys remarked to Allison, "Uh oh, here she comes." This time though, I snapped the ball perfectly. No head-seeking football!

In another drill we ran, we were supposed to run up behind a player and try to punch the ball out of their arm, then go and scoop up the loose football. When it was my turn, I punched the ball out, and started to go left to run around the guy to get the ball, thinking he was going right, but he ended up going left as well. I totally ran into him, with my hand and forearm unceremoniously slapping him on the butt.

Leslie, of course, then exclaimed to him, "She's married too!" I was laughing, totally embarrassed, and apologizing profusely (again). The second time I was up, he looked at me, and said, "Now remember this time, you're married!" I told him I promised not to grab him again. After I punched out the ball this time, we both stopped on a dime, put up our hands, and I tiptoed around him to get the football.

All in all, it was an awesome time, again. It's a pretty cool event they put together. The rest of the pictures can be found here on Flickr.

Saturday morning we drove down to visit Bill and Brenda at their new house in Morgan Hill. It's a big, beautiful new home. We had lunch and hung out together for a few hours. It was really nice seeing them and their kids, as we hadn't seen them in a while. Their daughter, Mia, was certainly a lot more chatty than the last time we saw her! Very cute.

After we left their place, we drove back home, let the dog out, and then drove down to Sunnyvale to have dinner with my brothers. Their apartment complex has a park with some grills, so we barbecued some chicken, sausages and kabobs. We started watching Watchmen afterwards, but after an hour and a half, I gave up. It was midnight by then, and I was tired, and the movie was pretty boring. Plus we found out there was still another hour and a half to go! I just couldn't wait that long for the payoff.

Sunday I slept in - until noon. We were originally going to have lunch with my parents, but my dad had to go into work, so we cancelled. But then we got a call from my mom to say that lunch was back on, and we were going to meet at 1. Seeing as how I had just woken up, I told them we'd be there in Fremont at 1:30.

After lunch, we went to the grocery store, then back home. I made some cupcakes, but totally screwed up my icing - I used only a half a stick of butter, when the recipe had actually called for half a cup (one full stick of butter). I initially tried fixing it by adding more powdered sugar before realizing my mistake. Adding additional butter after the fact didn't seem to help, it was still a bit runny, and by now, very, very sweet. I couldn't do it over either, as I had used up all my powdered sugar. Maybe I'll try it again tonight.

While I did that, Marc worked on fixing our furnace/AC. Last weekend both the fan and air conditioner had stopped working. We're actually somewhat familiar with our unit, since we had another problem a year or so ago. We replaced one fuse last time - this time it was a different fuse that had blown. Marc replaced the fuse, and things seem to be working again.

I cooked dinner (yes, again!), and then settled in to finally relax. I started watching the "Battlestar Gallactica" miniseries. I've been meaning to watch this for forever, as everyone says it's so good. So far it's pretty good - I'm hoping it'll be something to tide me over until all the other shows start.
