I'm cursed, I know I am. Had my pre-op consultation this morning, as scheduled, and heard the words I was dreading: "There's a possibility we may have to think about cancelling this cycle."
I had my sonogram before the consult, and I was kind of worried already, because only two follicles were over 18mm, and some of the little ones from Tuesday didn't seem to have progressed as much as they should have. So when I saw the doctor, he said that I only have 5 follicles over 16mm, and there seemed to be two groups of follicles developing - the big, maturing ones, and a bunch of little ones that weren't growing as fast as they would have liked.
I'll be going in again on Saturday (and maybe tomorrow) and at that point they'll assess how things look, and make a determination then. They want to see something more like 8 or 10 mature follicles to proceed - otherwise, there's a good chance they wouldn't get very many eggs, and with us already losing half or so due to being affected, it could end up being a waste with nothing left to transfer.
I have a little niggling optimism left because last time I had about 12 mature follicles (at the same point I'll be at Saturday), and they managed to get 17 mature eggs. It was expected with this protocol that there would be fewer, but I guess it's still less than what they'd want to see.
So, I'm still waiting for a phone call from my nurse or doctor (my regular one - my consult was with a different doctor, and he hadn't had a chance to go over my sono with my usual doctor). So we'll see what she says.
Sigh. I guess I'm just not meant to catch a break. It would be nice if just one damn thing would go right with this pregnancy thing.
Don't lose hope Bonz. I can't imagine how difficult and frustrating this must be.
