[Note: I wrote this back on Thursday night, but it didn't get published today due to some issues with the blog. I think my host must have changed something, because suddenly my old publishing path wasn't working. Took me a few days to figure it out. Bleh.]
I'm so behind on blogging thanks to some new craziness at work. We found out on Monday that instead of moving the remaining people in Palo Alto to a new site in South San Francisco, they are not going to move at all. Instead, a few people are going to be offered positions in New Jersey, and the rest are going to get laid off.
They've been spending the last few months finding a location in SSF, getting architects to draw up plans, doing all this work to prep for a move, and then just like that they announced that they changed their minds, and now a bunch more people are going to lose their jobs. Totally sucks.
So work has been strange this week, and it feels like all the air has been let out of this place. Nothing changes for me, really, since I was going to lose my job anyways, but I feel really bad for all my coworkers that thought they had jobs moving forward. I think it's a pretty shitty move on the part of some really shitty upper management we have.
On top of all that, over the weekend my mom had to go to the hospital. She was having some back pain and shortness of breath, so they admitted her and ran a bunch of tests. Her blood pressure was really, really high, which the doctors think caused her kidneys to not work optimally, which caused her to retain fluid, which started building up in her lungs, and it all started to stress out her heart, which caused the symptoms.
She's fine, thankfully, and the tests on her heart and lungs were clear. The only thing is that it looks like she needs to go back on dialysis as her kidney function is starting to worsen (it's been about 15 years since she had her transplant). She's kind of known it was a possibility for a few months now, so I think she's kind of prepared herself for it, and she seems okay. She'll likely eventually need another transplant, unfortunately. But she's at least back at home now, resting.
I had my first acupuncture appointment today, which went fine. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it took her all of 5 minutes (if that) to do the needles (they didn't hurt, yay), and then I just lay there for a half hour. She told me to relax - I ended up falling asleep.
I'm on the last half season of BSG, and it is SO GOOD. I'm sad that I'll be done soon! This has really been an awesome series - I wish I'd caught on to it sooner, although it's nice not having to wait a week between episodes.
Alright, time to get back to our Thursday night TV viewing.
