Droid!

I got a new phone this weekend! I was up for my "new every two" phone from Verizon and my Voyager was starting to have battery-life issues (although I've had worse), so Marc and I went and checked out the new Motorola Droid. I've been coveting an iPhone forever, but since I refuse to switch to AT&T, I decided to get the Droid in the meantime, until Apple wises up and makes the iPhone available on Verizon's network.

It's actually a really nice phone - it has a slide-out keyboard, which I like since I'm used to having one on my Voyager, although I've found that it's pretty much just as easy to use the touch screen keypad. The downside is that because of the added weight from the keyboard, the phone is kind of a brick.

There's tons of apps for it though, including ones that make use of the nifty barcode scanning feature (you can scan a barcode of a particular item in a store and then search online to see if it's cheaper elsewhere). I also scanned in all my rewards cards for stores - instead of having to carry those and pull them out, I can just have the cashier scan the barcode on my phone.

We were pretty busy this weekend. We went out for lunch for my brothers' birthday on Saturday - we went to this Korean BBQ place in Sunnyvale that was pretty good. In the evening, we went to Livermore for dinner. It was a memorial for Marc's cousin, who had passed away in October. We sat and chatted with Steve and Erin - it was a really nice dinner and gathering.

Sunday morning we spent some time trying to take pictures for our Christmas card. Always an ordeal. I must take like 50 pictures and end up with only 1 that I'm happy with. When that was done, we went out to look for a tree. I think we might be too picky, because we went out last weekend and didn't find one, and on Sunday we went to two different lots before we finally settled on one that we liked. And I think that's only because we really, really didn't want to have to go to a third place.

The tree is huge. I think it stands like 8 1/2' tall. It makes our living room look positively tiny. I kinda love it, haha.

The rest of our day was spent decorating the outside of the house with lights and what-not. Every house on our side of the street has decorated this year, and it looks like people have really upped the ante. It was starting to rain and get dark, so we were really working against the clock. Marc got half of the lights done - the other half we'll do this weekend. I got all the lawn decorations put together, and we still have the bushes and trees to decorate. The competition is on!

I haven't run or walked in a few days, mostly because it's been so damn cold. I did take Bandit to agility class on Thursday, and it was freezing.

Amazingly, I am still reading The Stand. It's a long-ass book. Really good though, and I'm more than halfway through, so I guess I'm committed. I kind of want to go back and watch the miniseries again when I'm finally done. I also read the Andre Agassi autobiography when I was stuck at home for a couple of days for IVF. It was actually a pretty fascinating read. If you're a tennis fan at all, I recommend it.

One week and two days left of work before Christmas break! I can't wait.
