Yes, that title is sarcasm. I'm just cleaning, cleaning away at work, and feeling like a Merry Maid. Everyone that has left the company already just left behind all their crap, and the rest of us are having to clean it. I feel like I'm cleaning someone else's house.
It is utterly amazing how much stuff there is here. I probably said this already, but the amount of stuff we're trashing is, well, gross. Lots of stuff is being sorted for recycling, but I don't know how much of it is actually recyclable. There's tons of other stuff being sent out for donations to schools and non-profits, so hopefully most of that stuff will get used. But still, the sheer amount of trash and waste is insane. I imagine shutting down any company generates a lot of waste, but I don't think many could compare to a pharmaceutical company.
I had a few weird dreams last night. In the most notable one, Marc and I had these two pet ants. I think they were proxies for the cats, mostly because I had been dreaming about the cats before that, and because one of the ants was an instigator asshole much like Stubby is, haha. So these ants were huge, and they really didn't look like ants all that much. And surprisingly I wasn't grossed out by them. Not sure why. But they were hanging out in the bathroom, and there were all these other random ants that were wandering around. The other ants looked different - they looked like walking lobster tails. Seriously, I don't know where my brain gets this stuff.
So Stubby-ant is hanging out in this shoebox-like thing filled with water that he's drinking (see, cat proxies). The lobster ants start trying to get some water for themselves, but Stubby-ant keeps attacking them and driving them off, even though there's plenty of room and water for others. This is why I dubbed him Stubby-ant. He then gets into a fight with two of the lobster ants, and he's starting to kick their asses. At one point he starts prying open the exoskeleton of the lobster ant (maybe I was hungry when I was dreaming this). Marc tells me I should do something, so I tap the box with my foot. Stubby-ant stops and is distracted momentarily, and at that moment one of the lobster ants takes advantage and bites Stubby-ant in the head, aaaaand that's when I woke up.
Nothing else too terribly exciting. I've been doing a decent job cooking this week, and we've been watching some of the Olympics. We've been watching "American Idol" on and off. I haven't seen any contestants that have really impressed me so far yet. We did, of course, watch "LOST" on Tuesday, so my thoughts on that are as follows:
I liked this ep quite a bit, even though it was Jack-centric. I've been finding him a bit more likable this season, although he still did some things that were classic examples of why I find his character so frustrating.
The sideways stuff was interesting, and got me really intrigued by this other timeline. The big thing, obviously, is the fact that Jack has a son in this timeline. The one thing they didn't tell us was who the kid's mother is - in the island timeline he met Sarah sometime in 2000 or 2001, which would have been way too recent to have a kid that's like 13. The possibilities are that he met Sarah much earlier, or he didn't meet her at all, and the mom is someone else. Either it's not important information at all and we'll never find out, or it'll be someone we know and they're saving it for a big reveal. Seeing as how the show loves to surprise us, I'm going with the latter. I think it'll be either Sarah or, going out on more of a limb, Juliet. We know it's not Kate (who's too young anyways), and there's history between him and Juliet, so it would certainly be a surprise but also kind of make sense.
The bit with the appendix scar was interesting too. Sideways Jack seemed to have forgotten or was confused about when he had it taken out. His mom reminded him that he had it taken out when he was 7 or 8 (someone pointed out that this could have been around the time Jughead went off in 1977). In the island timeline, Juliet removed it back in season 4. So there seems to be some kind of bleedover of memories and physical manifestations from the island timeline into this sideways one.
The lighthouse was cool, and we got to see a whole bunch of names including those that were on the cave wall. But Jack smashing the mirrors out of rage? That totally epitomizes the part of the character that frustrates me to no end. I get that he's mad, that he feels like someone's been manipulating him his whole life, but hello? You just found a mirror that apparently is a window into the lives of 360 people. Aren't you the least bit curious to see what it can do? Some man of science he is.
As for "feral" Claire, I like her better than how she was before. She looks awful, but she's at least more interesting now that's she's a little crazy. Before that, she was mostly just useless. You gotta feel for the women on this show sometimes. It's like the writers come up with these awesome characters, but then don't know what to do with them. Kate was such a cool character in season 1, but since then she's just been an annoying ping pong in the love triangle/quadrangle. Sun was kickass for a while, but now all she says is, "WHERE'S MY HUSBAND???" (to be fair, poor Jin has just been all, "WHERE'S SUN???" lately). Juliet was the awesome-est, but they kind of dropped all her story lines and then stuck her in the love quadrangle and then killed her.
But it's getting pretty interesting. I still feel like I'm failing to see the big picture here when I should be able to. I'm definitely going to stay unspoiled for the finale because I really want to be surprised by what the overarching answer to all this is going to be.
