Yay, Rain

For some reason, rain actually seems to lift my spirits, rather than make me depressed. Although, the fact that I left my umbrella in the car today makes me a little sad. But I think I could live in a place like Seattle just fine. I love gray, overcast days.

The cake I made for my mom's birthday turned out pretty well. The cake was super tall, as was what the recipe called for, but I think in the future I'll probably bake it with 9" pans instead of 8", because it was really just super tall. But I thought it tasted pretty good, and my dad even said it tasted better than the ones they usually get at the bakery (of course, he followed that up with the statement that the one at the bakery is "terrible," so I'm not sure how much of a compliment that is!).

My parents and brothers had gone down to the restaurant at around 3:30 only to discover that the wait was going to be at least two hours. So they ended up getting an order to go and bringing it back to my parents' house, which worked out pretty well. I felt a little bad for Marc as there wasn't a lot for him to eat. There was some sausage and corn, and I gutted out some crab for him. He doesn't eat shellfish because he thinks it's too much work for too little reward, but doesn't seem to mind if I do it for him. Although work notwithstanding, I don't think he likes seafood much anyways, so I don't know. My husband is strange. This is the same guy who doesn't like ribs because he doesn't like to "gnaw on bones." My feeling is, if the meat is tasty, who cares if it comes off a bone? Personally, I find meat that comes on a stick to be a nice convenience, but to each his/her own.

Nothing else terribly exciting going on. We've been watching lots of Olympics, and kind of finding ourselves fascinated by curling, which is scary. We watched a bit when we were at my parents' house, and apparently my dad knows all the terms. He also loves to watch soccer though, so I'm not surprised he'd be into something like curling. For the record, I'd rather watch curling than soccer any day. Apologies to soccer fans, but that is just one sport I cannot get into watching. At all.

Sometime this week (maybe this weekend), I think I'm going to try my hand at decorating a basic buttercream cake. My grand plan is to make a Dharma cake for the "LOST" finale (it's on a Sunday, so we're thinking of having a finale party), so I need to build some skills.

Off to go clean some more now. Bleh.

I too am addicted to curling. Why, I don't know, but it seems to be the sport of this Olympics as everyone I've talked to seems to be as well. :)
