So it looks like my employment has been officially extended until the end of May. Which is mostly a good thing, as I'm trying to hold onto my medical insurance for as long as I can (I get coverage throughout my severance as well). The other upside is that my anniversary falls in May, which means I should get an extra two weeks of severance pay.
Work hasn't been too bad, it's all shutdown activities, but I've also been able to take a lot of the career transition courses they've been offering. So I'm learning how to do my resume properly, how to network, etc. It's pretty useful - apparently having one of these centers available for two years is unheard of, lol.
Even nicer, my boss is fine with me flexing my time a bit - so if I feel like working extra hours during the week and then taking Friday off, I can. He doesn't mind so long as what needs to get done, gets done.
As for this weekend, Marc and I spent it in Monterey, which was so nice. The weather was gorgeous. We both left work early Friday (it was supposed to be Marc's Friday off, and my company was having a party that afternoon, so neither of us felt particularly guilty) and drove down. We stayed in a nice suite at the Hyatt. Interesting hotel, as it has a lobby, but all the rooms are separated in clusters in buildings, like a motel, but with an indoor hallway on each floor.
We got a 90-minute couples massage that evening, which was super relaxing. We had dinner at a sports bar and got to watch the Cal-Louisville game with some other Bears fans.
On Saturday, we had breakfast at a place called Red House Cafe. I had the cinnamon raisin brioche french toast, which came with chantilly cream and strawberries and orange marmalade butter and was absolutely to die for. It had to be one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Marc had the chirozo and eggs, which was also quite good. It's a cute little place too, and our waitress was really nice. I'll definitely want to go back there next time we're in Monterey.
After breakfast, we went to the aquarium. Always a fun place to visit. I took a bunch of pictures which can be seen here. We spent most of the day there before returning to the hotel, where we napped until dinner time.
We went to a place called the Chart House for dinner. I had the shrimp fresca, which was angel hair pomodoro topped with crab meat and served with parmesan crusted shrimp. Yum.
We stayed in and bought Did You Hear About the Morgans on pay-per-view. It was actually a pretty funny movie. I love Hugh Grant. Every word that came out of his mouth was hilarious.
We slept in on Sunday, had lunch at Gianni's Pizza, did a little shopping downtown, and rented a surrey (4-wheel bike) for an hour. We actually had a lot of fun pedaling that thing up and down the coast. After that we headed home. Stopped by my parents' house to pick up the dog and had dinner with them and my brothers.
We came home and discovered that our refrigerator door had been left open. Not sure if it was us or our neighbor that came over to take care of the fish and cats. Either way, the fridge was totally warm by the time we got home, and we had to throw a bunch of food away. That kinda sucked.
Happy LOST Day! Tonight's episode should be epic.
