Final Month

| | Comments (2)

So tomorrow marks the first day in my last month of work. I'm 99% sure it's for real this time, heh. There's plenty to keep me busy this month, it's gonna be crazy.

I ended up calling in sick on Friday, because I still wasn't feeling great. I barely made it through Thursday, and didn't have anything pressing going on Friday, so decided to stay in and take it easy.

My doctor called Friday to let me know that we had 7 embryos that made it to blastocyst and were biopsied, which is good! There were 2-3 more that were still morulas/early blasts that day, and 2 of those went on to form blastocysts by Saturday, so those were biopsied as well, giving us a total of 9 embryos for testing. We should learn the genetic test results by Tuesday, so we'll find out just how many unaffected embryos we'll have. Assuming we have at least one, the next big hurdle will be having them survive the thaw - their survival rates for frozen embryos are supposed to be very good, but I pretty much don't take anything for granted when it comes to this. So I'm cautiously optimistic. But having 9 embryos make it to blastocyst is way, way better than we've ever had previously (I think we've had 3 or 4 from our last three cycles combined).

We spent most of Saturday running errands, and in the evening we went to Jan's house for dinner. We watched It's Complicated afterwards, which was pretty funny, but definitely skews to the older audience, lol.

I spent most of today baking. Nothing special, but I needed to test out a cake recipe and frosting recipe for the cake I'm making for my ex-coworker's rescue group in two weeks. The cake (from the Cake Bible) was a simple yellow cake recipe, which turned out well, but the buttercream recipe wasn't great (I didn't like the consistency once I added chocolate - but maybe the melted chocolate wasn't completely cooled?). I think I'll either go back to the other buttercream recipe I have or try the Wilton's recipe.

It tastes good though - so if anyone wants cake, I now have a 9x13 sheet of it that I can't finish!

YAY for 9!!!! That's so much better starting out than before!!

I can't remember - have you written about what you're going to do once you FINALLY end work?

I haven't figured out yet what I'm going to do. :) My plan is to take a month or two and just enjoy my time off, and then look for a job. I want to try to get away from research and maybe do something more technical instead, but I haven't figured that all out yet.
