I'm Here

I haven't competely fallen off the map, but close to it! Work last week was insanely busy. And outside of work, I was pretty much just as busy, which meant that there was like zero time to blog.

I was busy at work all of last week helping to decommission one of our large robotic systems (probably the largest system we had on site). We had 30 crates for packing this thing up - and 5 of them measured 91" x 85" x 72". HUGE. These things were so big that they created a logistical nightmare - we could barely get them into our loading dock.

While the service engineers were going through disassembling everything, I was rushing around like a madwoman trying to decontaminate all the parts as they came off. This system takes up an entire, large room, so you can imagine how much there was to do. I took some pictures, which I'll try to post if I ever get a moment. I think I spent a total of an hour the whole week at my desk - mostly when I was wolfing down a Subway sandwich.

On top of that all, the rest of my free time was taken up working on a cake for my ex-coworker, Fran, who was hosting a party for her Golden Gate Basset Rescue group. I'd done some parts of it pretty far in advance - namely the fondant basset puppies, but I still had lots to do during the week.

The cake turned out pretty great, although the buttercream frosting I used didn't hold up as well as I would have liked. I might try a thinner layer on the outside edges next time to see if that works better.

Fran invited us to the party, which was all the way up in Mt. Aukum, so we drove it the 2 1/2 hours up there on Saturday morning. The cake survived the trip without too much trauma, although the buttercream gathered a bit on the sides. We brought Bandit with us too, and he did pretty well, even if he was overwhelmed by the 40-something basset hounds that were there. He didn't mind the bassets at all - but he did not care for the two bloodhounds that were also there (so we can add those to Bandit's dislike list, which also includes Boxers and Great Danes).

Their property up there was gorgeous. We had a nice time hanging out in the sun, checking out their chickens (Fran and her husband have about a dozen chickens - the Japanese Bantams were particularly cool) and watching the basset hound games (one was bobbing for hot dogs, which was pretty funny).

We got home late in the afternoon, and I passed out for a few hours. I'd been up the night before until almost 2 am working on the cake, and had to get up at 8 am to leave for the party, so I was exhausted. I literally felt like I was hung over when I woke up from my nap, it was horrible. I think it was probably a combination of fatigue and being in the sun for so long.

Okay, that's it for now, I'll try to update more later. Gotta go to bed now.
